Bayfield Carnegie Library

Bayfield Carnegie Library The Bayfield Carnegie Library is your choice for information and community networking.

Our philosophy is that "the Bayfield Carnegie Library should consider itself neither too small to be a BULWARK of freedom, nor too big to be a friend of the citizen who loves and uses it." The library's mission is to be a creative learning center for the Bayfield community and to nurture the love of books and reading.

I hope you can join us for this opportunity to learn about the people and the way of life that impacted our region.

September brings a shift in Bayfield. 🍎🍁📚 The crowds thin, routines return, and our community begins to turn toward one another again.

As summer winds down, we're thinking about our community reading of The Serviceberry, which reminded us that we all have something to give. That's part of why we love co-hosting Repair Cafés.

Someone has a broken toy. Someone else knows how to fix it.

Someone needs help with a phone. Someone happens to know exactly which setting to change.

Someone can mend a sweater. Someone knows how to felt the hole.

That's reciprocity. That's community. And it doesn't require everyone to have the same skills.

Our next Repair Café, co-hosted by the Bayfield Carnegie Library and CORE Community Resources, is October 10. Mark your calendar. We're always looking for people to join our small volunteer teams... and we're willing to bet you have a skill we haven't even thought to ask for yet.

If you're not sure what to offer, stop by the library to chat. Or save the date and simply show up at the Repair Cafe to chat. One of the best ways to know what to offer, is to stop by, grab a fresh cup of coffee, and check out the event!

A big thank you to Chef Renee for sharing her skills, resources, recipe, and sourdough starter (Bertha) tonight. ♥️🫙🥖

Do you have a kitchen skill or recipe you want to teach or share with neighbors? Let us know, we’d love to host you at the library.

PS. If you were able to attend tonight, what are you naming your new sourdough starter?!?

Pop-up Sourdough Focaccia program! Join us Tuesday for this impromptu community skill share at the library at 6pm.

Come and learn the baking process with Renee Papesh, from Superior Crust Bakery. Then go home with your own sourdough starter and focaccia dough to bake.

✅✅✅
RSVP required! Let us know in the comments if you’ll be attending, so we can prep your take home goodies.

***Please bring a food storage container that can hold at least 4 quarts and has a tight lid for your focaccia dough and a container to take your sourdough starter home. Wide mouth mason jars and yogurt containers work great for the starter!

If you’re not able to attend this impromptu pop-up program but are interested in a future date, let us know so we can encourage Renee to return this winter!

Good at fixing things? Great. Good at drinking coffee? We need you, too. ☕️💛

One of the things we love about Repair Café is that you don't have to be a fix-it expert to participate.

Maybe you know your way around a sewing machine. Maybe you're the person everyone calls when their phone is acting weird. Maybe you can make a beautiful Canva flyer, find the right YouTube tutorial, hold a flashlight, or patiently explain something for the fifth time.

Or maybe you're just good company.

Our Repair Cafés, co-hosted by the Bayfield Carnegie Library and CORE Community Resources, are about more than repairing sweaters, toys and electronics. They're about the reciprocity we talked about when our community read The Serviceberry: sharing what we have, helping one another, and building something stronger together.

Our next Repair Café is October 10, and we're always looking for volunteers. We coordinate ahead of time and work in small teams, so there's no pressure to know how to fix everything.

Sometimes community looks like repairing a toaster. Sometimes it looks like sitting beside someone with a cup of coffee while they wait. ❤️
