This document will be a fully listing of the committee meetings with a table of contents and links to the dates. It will be easier for residents to review what they want to see and the office staff to update one document. This can be adjusted if you have other suggestions.
After the meeting Julie spoke to Corey to see about a Committee section on the website where these minutes and updates can be posted. He will look into this
Items Identified as Concerns
• Bus Stop Congestion
o Potentially move the bus stop out of the congested area for the safety of the kids and traffic
• Entrance and Exit
o Since this meeting, more signage was added/moved.
• Signage: Stop, Yield – based on CO laws
o Have Darryle provide everyone with the laws and how the signage should be placed and where.
• Speeding: education of residents / courtesy / campaign monthly (FB, Email)
o 850 homes – newsletter via email or mailed out? Need to figure out the best option and how often. This could encompass more than roads
• Speed wagons placed around the roads
o CO law enforcement submit tickets based on cameras? Need to find out if this is an option
• Speed Bumps
o This is a priority of Darryle. He feels they worked.
o Need to understand the best placement
• Enforcement from Law enforcement
o This has been asked in the past and we need to understand and request this as FLMD residents pay taxes. How often could they come in a month?
• Guardrails – Darryle to identify areas
o Hilltop drive and Hillside Drive
• Emulsion for the roads on hills (makes the roads hard like concrete)
o Check on pricing and perhaps only use this for high traffic areas to save money
• Traffic Study
o It might be in the best interest of FLMD to have a certified traffic study
• Traffic count on website
o Corey is provided the results to post on the website. It was noted that this still needs to be updated as it is being looked at by residents
• Widening roads or straighten on turns to make it safer
o This is being looked at by Corey and Darryle.

Luke from the Sheriff’s Office Attended to Offer Suggestions
What the Sheriff’s department can offer to FLMD and provide suggestions to the committee to think about.
• What is the goal to achieve and to get buy in from the community
• What you do needs to be measurable and have smart goals
• Have community be supportive and help change the culture
• Messaging – this is a mountain community, wild life, kids, people, snow mountain community, ‘slow to forest’ message against speeders.
• Have kids design posters or stickers for the community to bring awareness and community togetherness
• Stickers for cars to support speed limits
• Ambassadors within FLMD to take pictures and report to the sheriffs department
• Holiday street decorations – get them involved
• Community engagement during the Wild Fire Mitigation fair. Have information for the community on road safety
• The sheriff’s department had 31,000 instances in 2025 (64 minutes per call) – based on numbers they are short 16 people on patrol – they have 4 to 5 officers for all of La Plata County. They are working on hiring 2-3 other officers.
• They can offer contracted paid officers during peak travel time 2 days a months, holidays, etc. The rate is $95.00 an hour with a minimum of 2 hours
• Speed trailers, take pictures and they can pull up the data. They do not ticket from these, but they can find repeat offenders
• DOT to evaluate the speed limits – Darryle to check to see if this is something they can do with a fee
• FLMD is going to be doing a traffic study in the near future
o CRS state statue is 25 MPH if it is an unmarked road
• Durango PD did a program, may be able to get a grant – Luke to give Darryle the information
