Spanish Mustang Preserve The Spanish Mustang Preserve is a 501c3 nonprofit located in Bayfield, WI, dedicated to the preservation of the original Spanish Mustang Registry horses.

The Spanish Mustang Preserve is dedicated in saving the last of our true-to-type Spanish Mustangs through a highly selective breeding program. Our financial viability goes hand in hand with our ability to maintain genetic viability of these exceedingly rare horses. Each breeding that takes place on the Preserve is a dedicated effort in long-term responsibility for each resulting foal. As well, bre

eding pairs are carefully selected based on true Spanish type and a study of each horse's pedigree. The Spanish Mustang helped shape the USA as we know it. Descended of the horse of the Conquistadors, Indian buffalo hunters and war ponies, to wild horse of the West, this breed has a rich and illustrious history that forms an important part of our American Heritage. Thanks to the Spanish Mustang Registry and a handful of dedicated breeders, who have made it their life's work to preserve these special horses, the breed is still in existence today, albeit on the critical list of rare breeds. The Spanish Mustang is not to be confused with the BLM mustang. We are pleased to contribute to the longevity of this breed, along with the Spanish Mustang Registry and the Spanish Mustang Foundation. Spanish Mustangs are supremely intelligent, intuitive, and caring horses. They bond tightly with their person, and result in a partner for life. As a breed, these horses are well-rounded in the disciplines put before them. They successfully work and compete in dressage, jumping, eventing, endurance, ranch and cow work, as well as pleasure trail riding. You may contact us for information regarding availability of horses for home-placement. Potential sale of horses is subject to approval on a case-by-case basis. Just another good day at the Spanish Mustang Preserve. Had two yearlings, half brothers, still in the pasture with their dams. Time to cut them out and load them up. Entire process took less than 2 hours. These horses were born on the Cayuse Ranch in Wyoming, transported here when they were only a few weeks old last Spring. Still have their curiosity and have always been treated kindly so they were very trusting. Both these colts were sired by Narragansett Jack, SMR No3656, the last Jack Slade son and will be available for purchase.
