Baytown residents, sometimes I have to bring you news that may be tough to hear. This morning Baytown Police chief Stringer had a Facebook press conference where he disclosed a serious allegation concerning the controversial flock ALPR cameras in Baytown. If true, it appears that a member of the Baytown Police Department may have misused this flock surveillance program. Chief Stringer says he has asked for a criminal investigation and has said he is working with the DA. This is the right step. The potential for abusing this system was one of the things that motivated me to pull the flock contract for council discussion where I eventually voted no. Unfortunately, my view did not prevail and we find ourselves here today. I will use this opportunity to continue to advocate for the removal of Flock cameras which i believe are a violation of our constitutional rights, or at very least new policies to place additional guardrails on their use to ensure this wonโ€™t happen again. I call on my fellow council members to join me in protecting our citizens. I thank chief Stringer for his swift action and public announcement. Please listen to the chief in this link.

Happy Independence Day and 250 years of our great nation!

"God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid ?" -Benjamin Franklin-

At tonight's Baytown City Council meeting, during my District 3 report, I took the opportunity to recognize and thank the citizens in my district who have gone the extra mile to operate and maintain the Lakewood Pool club. The Lakewood pool not only serves citizens and residents with a place to cool off during the hot Baytown summer months, but a local iconic amenity that is as old as Baytown itself. James A Springer, Frank Fay III McKay and Holden Dunson along with many volunteers have all worked countless hours maintaining the pool. Even after multiple hurricanes, they have worked as diligently as aunts to preserve the pool and restore it back to its pristine brilliance on multiple occasions. The Lakewood pool is funded primarily through season pass membership and concessions. The pool also benefits from contributions by local industry partners Baytown ExxonMobil and other industry partners. The Lakewood pool serves our city as a shining example of what can be achieved with a little civic pride and a lot of elbow grease. What are your memories of the Baytown pool? drop a comment down below!
