Today we had the honor of celebrating the retirement of Engineer Tony Spiller. Engineer Spiller has served the residents and City of Baytown for 25 years. He spent a majority of his career on C-Shift, but his final years were spent serving in the Fire Marshal's Office. We're deeply grateful for the many years Engineer Spiller has spent serving the community and wish him the best in all of his future endeavors.

Today we pause to remember the sacrifices of the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our great country. As you gather with family and friends to celebrate the long weekend, please be sure to take a moment to pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, because freedom does not come free!

At 4:13 this evening we were dispatched for a report of a 13-year-old girl clinging to a tree in Cedar Bayou in the Lynwood area. The closest engine crew proceeded to the area with life vests and throw ropes while other crews launched our fireboat and rescue boat from farther down the bayou. After the neighborhood engine company made contact with the girl and took her to dry ground, the rescue boat took her aboard for transport to her family. She was uninjured and reunited with her family at a nearby dock.

This incident serves as a reminder to always watch children when they are in the water and ensure they have life vests.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Jaxson Hagewood on his recent promotion, after the completion of his probationary period. We had the honor of celebrating his accomplishment with his official badge pinning today. Firefighter Hagewood was pinned by his grandmother and his Oath of Office was administered by Fire Chief Kenny Dobson.

Firefighter Hagewood has been assigned to fire station 2, A-Battalion and will remain there.

We wish him the best and look forward to watching him continue progressing his career with the department.
