This week, members of our dive team traveled to Key West, FL for a joint ERDI Underwater Threat Assessment and Hull Inspection training opportunity, with Harris County and DPS.

ERDI underwater threat assessment and hull inspection training develops the knowledge and operational awareness necessary to recognize and identify potential hazardous devices, as well as other illegal substances, within underwater environments.
It is specifically designed to prepare public safety personnel to:
• recognize potential underwater explosive threats and smuggled illegal substances
• understand operational limitations
• initiate diver-recall procedures
• secure operational areas
• coordinate with qualified explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) or specialist response teams.

This training gives members of our dive team necessary skills to provide specialized services that keep the safety and wellbeing of Baytown citizens as a top priority!

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Sal Garofalo on his recent promotion, following his probationary year. We had the honor of celebrating his achievement with his official badge pinning ceremony. Firefighter Garofalo was pinned by his wife and his Oath of Office was administered by Fire Chief Kenny Dobson.

Firefighter Garofalo was previously assigned to station 2, C-Battalion and has since been reassigned to station 2, A-Battalion.

We wish him the best and look forward to watching him continue progressing his career with the department.

We are responding to a ruptured gas line in the 6300 block of Garth Road. Garth is closed between Santavy and Hunt while BFD units and Center Point work to secure the leak. Please avoid the area. We have no estimated repair time but will update when we know more.
