SID Investigation into Local Smoke Shop Leads to Drug Charges, Firearm Seizure, and Three Arrests

After a months-long investigation, Special Investigations Division (SID) detectives developed information indicating a local smoke shop was allegedly involved in the sale of ma*****na, concentrated THC products, and edible products believed to contain psilocin, a psychedelic substance commonly found in mushrooms.

Yesterday, detectives executed a search warrant at a smoke shop located in the 600 block of Schilling Ave, as part of the ongoing investigation. As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old female and a 54-year-old male, identified as the husband-and-wife owners of the business, were both charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Ma*****na.

A 20-year-old male customer who was on scene at the time of the search warrant was also arrested and charged with Possession of Ma*****na. During the ex*****on of the warrant, detectives also seized two handguns.

The illegal sale of narcotics and controlled substances continues to pose a risk to public safety and quality of life in our community. Our department remains committed to proactively investigating these offenses and holding those responsible accountable. We encourage our community to continue reporting suspicious activity and working alongside us to help keep our community safe.

Major Crash on W. Baker Leads to Officer Rescue of Entrapped Driver

Yesterday, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of W. Baker in reference to a major crash involving two vehicles. While en route, dispatch advised that one of the vehicles was on fire and a female driver in the second vehicle was trapped inside.

When officers arrived, they found a Ram pickup burning, with flames spreading to a nearby fence, tree, and power lines. Just feet away from the burning truck, officers located the second vehicle with an unconscious female driver trapped inside.

Despite the immediate danger and the possibility of the fire spreading, one officer broke a window and crawled completely inside the heavily damaged vehicle to reach the driver. With the assistance of other responding officers, the unconscious woman was safely removed from the vehicle and carried to a secure location where EMS personnel began treatment.

All occupants involved in the crash were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Please remember to slow down, stay alert, and drive responsibly. In an instant, lives can change, and every safe decision made behind the wheel matters.

Last night’s incident is a reminder that our officers regularly place themselves in dangerous situations to protect and save the lives of others. We are thankful for the quick actions of all first responders who worked together during this incident. Thank you for keeping Baytown safe! 💙

Memorial Day Weekend: Keeping the Roads Safe, Together!

While many in our community were spending Memorial Day weekend with family and friends, officers across multiple agencies were working the roadways with a shared focus: preventing impaired driving and keeping traffic moving safely.

Through coordinated efforts between our department, the Deer Park Police Department, and the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office, officers maintained a strong presence throughout the weekend and conducted proactive traffic enforcement across the area.

That visibility led to 67 total traffic stops, resulting in 19 citations and 48 warnings, with each stop serving as an opportunity to correct unsafe behavior before it escalated into something more serious.

Enforcement efforts resulted in 16 DWI arrests, including 4 felony cases, removing impaired drivers from the roadway during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year. Officers also seized 7.5 grams of ma*****na and 1 firearm, highlighting the range of offenses encountered during holiday traffic enforcement. Additionally, Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office contributed 5 DWI arrests during the May 23–24 period, further strengthening the overall impact of the operation.

This weekend was a clear example of what happens when agencies work together under a unified mission. By combining resources, communication, and visibility, these partnerships create safer outcomes across jurisdictional lines.

As we move into the summer season, we remind everyone to plan ahead, drive sober, and make the responsible choice. Safe roads are not the work of one agency; they are the result of all of us working together.

After years of dedicated service to our community, we would like to recognize the retirement of three outstanding members of our K-9 Unit: K-9 Hero, K-9 Enzo, and K-9 Big. 🐾💙

These loyal partners served alongside their handlers in narcotics detection, tracking, evidence recovery, and patrol functions, helping keep our community and their handlers safe each and every day.

🐾K-9 Hero faithfully served from 2017 to 2026. He first worked alongside Officer Johnny Almendarez before later partnering with Officer Calvert. Following Sgt. Calvert’s promotion this year, Hero officially retired at 11 years old after nearly a decade of service.

🐾K-9 Enzo served from 2019 to 2025 with Officer Dodson. After Sgt. Dodson’s promotion, Enzo retired at 8 years old, leaving behind a strong legacy of service and dedication.

🐾K-9 Big served from 2017 to 2024 and retired at 9 years old following a heat-related illness. Now 11 years old, Big is enjoying a well-earned retirement after years of faithful service to the department and community.

Today, all three K-9s are enjoying retirement alongside their handlers, trading deployments and long shifts for belly rubs, treats, and time at home with their families.

Organizations such as the registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, For The Big & The Brave- Retired K9 Medical Foundation help support retired Baytown Police Department K-9 officers by assisting with medical expenses as they enjoy their retirement years.

Please join us in wishing these retired heroes a happy, healthy, and relaxing retirement! 🦴🐕
