One of the most rewarding aspects of Baytown's tourism initiatives is seeing visitors become part of our community, even if only for a couple of days.

This summer, Baytown welcomed Connor Galvin-Ridge from Tasmania, Australia, whose visit showcased how Baytown's community programming creates meaningful connections. Rather than simply passing through, Connor chose to immerse himself in experiences that brought him together with local residents and fellow outdoor enthusiasts.

Connor began his visit by participating in Jenkins Park parkrun, where he finished first with a time of 21:40 during his first visit to the course. An accomplished parkrunner with 189 finishes, a 100-run milestone, and a 50-volunteer milestone, Connor not only ran alongside our local participants but also volunteered, embracing the welcoming spirit that makes the weekly event so special.

Following parkrun, Connor hosted a geocaching meet-up at a local Baytown Starbucks, bringing together geocachers from Baytown and surrounding communities before setting out to complete the Baytown GeoTour. The GeoTour is designed to guide visitors through Baytown’s parks, historic sites, and other points of interest, offering an interactive way to discover the community’s history, natural spaces, and unique destinations.

Connor's visit is a reminder that Baytown's parks, events, and community programs do more than attract visitors, they create opportunities for people from around the world to feel like they belong, even if it's only for a couple of days. We are proud that someone from halfway across the globe chose to spend time with our community, and we extend a heartfelt Baytown welcome and sincere thank you to Connor for visiting, participating, and becoming part of our community.
