I received a call from Juliet, who was extremely upset after losing her wedding ring the day before while enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. She explained that she had been in waist-deep water, tossing a ball back and forth, when one catch didn’t go as planned—the ball struck her hand just right, and her ring flew off into the ocean below.
As most people know, once a ring disappears into the ocean, the odds of recovering it without professional help are very slim. That’s when she decided to reach out.
I reassured Juliet that I’d be happy to help and explained that the best time to search would be at the next low tide. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to return to the beach, but she did an excellent job providing details—she even drew a sketch of the area and pointed out key landmarks to guide me.
Knowing this was a heavily hunted beach, I headed out as soon as conditions were right, hoping no one had already come across the ring. I began my search higher up on the slope, thinking there was a chance the ring may have been pushed in by the tide. After working my way down with no signals, I paused to double-check my position against Juliet’s sketch.
Everything lined up perfectly—I was in the right spot.
Continuing the search, I moved into the water and started covering the area more carefully. Then it happened—a beautiful, solid signal came through my detector. The tone was exactly what I had been hoping to hear.
Taking my time, I made one careful scoop, making sure not to lose the target or push it deeper. As I lifted the scoop and shook away the sand and shells… there it was—Juliet’s beautiful wedding ring, shining back at me.
I couldn’t wait to make the call and share the good news.
We arranged to meet later that day, and seeing the smile on her face when she had her ring back was what it’s all about. She truly believed it was gone forever.
Another successful recovery—and a reminder that sometimes, even when all seems lost, there’s still hope.
