It is with profound sadness that the members of the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company #1, announce the passing of Life Member - Firefighter Michael Leonard.

Mike joined our organization in 1994 and dedicated more than three decades of service to the residents and visitors of Beach Haven. Throughout his years of membership, he served on numerous committees, held the position of Vice President, and answered countless structure fires, emergency incidents, and calls for service whenever his community needed him.

Beyond his commitment to the fire service, Mike was known for his generous spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering willingness to help others. He loved to have fun, could always be counted on to lend a hand, and embodied the true meaning of brotherhood. His friendship, dedication, and service left a lasting impact on our organization and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mike was more than a firefighter—he was a brother. His legacy of service, camaraderie, and commitment to others will never be forgotten.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Company #1, we extend our deepest condolences to the Leonard family and all who mourn his loss. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest easy, Brother.
We have the watch from here.

No lifeguards, no swimming.

No matter how great of a swimmer you are, the ocean doesn’t care. Not only are you putting yourself at risk, but also bystanders that come in to help and the first responders too.

Think about your family and friends at home

PUBLIC SAFETY MESSAGE

Surf City Fire & EMS is urging residents and visitors to stay out of the ocean until lifeguards are on duty for the season, beginning June 19 in Surf City.

Over the weekend, Surf City Fire & EMS responded to four water rescue incidents involving swimmers caught in dangerous rip currents. Tragically, one of these incidents resulted in a drowning.

Rip currents can be powerful, unpredictable, and life-threatening, even for experienced swimmers. Without lifeguards on duty, rescue efforts may be delayed, increasing the risk of serious injury or death.

For your safety, please do not enter the water until guarded beaches are open and staffed with lifeguards. We encourage everyone to respect ocean conditions, heed all safety warnings, and help us prevent further tragedies.

Stay safe, and remember: Only swim at guarded beaches when lifeguards are on duty.

Designating a Water Watcher is one of the simplest things you can do to keep kids safe at the beach — and one of the most overlooked. 👀

Here's how it works:
🔵 One adult. One job. Watch the water.
🔵 No phones. No side conversations.
🔵 Rotate every 15–20 minutes so you stay alert.

Drowning is fast and silent. Active supervision isn't optional — it's everything.
Tag a parent who needs to hear this. 💙

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans and active-duty military members for their continued service and commitment to protecting our freedoms.

We are especially proud to have veterans within our own department who continue to serve their community with the same honor and dedication they showed our nation.

From all of us at BHVFC, thank you to those who served, those who continue to serve, and the families who stand beside them every day.

Please join us in taking a moment today to remember our heroes. 🇺🇸
