Happy Earth Day from us to you! While we encourage all to treat each day as Earth Day, a dedicated holiday gives us a reason to celebrate and share what we are doing for the health of our planet!

A few simple ways to celebrate today:
🌎 plant a flower or a vegetable
🌎 pick up some litter
🌎 recycle some old papers you’ve been meaning to get rid of
🌎 take a walk or a bike ride to enjoy the nature around you

🫛🫜🥬 It’s that time of year again! Applications are being accepted for the Beachwood Community Garden located at the municipal complex. Come enjoy getting to know some of your neighbors while expanding your growing capabilities.

Perks of renting a community garden plot:
🥕 All plots are 10’x10’ raised beds
🥕 A shed with all the tools you need ready to borrow
🥕 Running water available at no extra cost
🥕 10’ fenced in area keeps the critters at bay
🥕 Full sun all summer long

One week ago today, we celebrated the winners of our Earth Day poster contest at the Beachwood Council Meeting. Our winners are in grades K-5 from Beachwood Elementary School and Pine Beach Elementary School.

🌎 Earth Day History: Earth Day was first celebrated April 22, 1970, sparking the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of other first-of-their-kind environmental laws, including the National Environmental Education Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and the Clean Air Act. Two years later congress passed the Clean Water Act.

This year for Earth Day, the Beachwood Environmental Shade Tree Committee enlisted the creativity from some of our youngest community members to create projects with the prompt “How do you support Earth Day at home?” Our winners, pictured below, created wonderful, beautifully made projects in multiple mediums. Posters included interests of planting trees, creating pollinator gardens, recycling and proper trash disposal, and water conservation and management.

It is also a great joy to see the brilliant minds of our future environmentalists!

🌱🌷 Spring is almost here! 🌷🌱

Garden applications will begin being accepted this Monday, March 3rd with the garden opening April 15th! Here is a copy of the garden application for your convenience. Please read and return the completed application (pages 4-5) with full payment to Borough Hall, Attn: Environmental Shade Tree Committee.

New for this year:
Now each household may rent 2 plots at the same time. This means double the planting and double the fun!

We can’t wait to see what gets planted this year!

It’s time again for our annual Home Gardening Contest! Join us with your home grown goodies at our September meeting at Borough Hall.

Basic rules:
1️⃣ Be a Beachwood resident.
2️⃣ Be an amateur gardener.
3️⃣ Be 18+ OR be accompanied by an adult.
4️⃣ No store bought or market stand bought items.

That’s a wrap! We gave out 125 tree 🌳seedlings in just 80 minutes, the quickest we have ever run out! Thank you all for coming and for making this giveaway a success.
