🚔 Beacon Falls Police Cadet Program — August 26, 2026 Meeting 🚨

Last night’s meeting was another great night of learning, training, and putting knowledge into practice!

We started the evening with program business and a uniform inspection before moving into a lesson on the law enforcement application process.

This is the beginning of the cadets preparing their own resumes and cover letters for an upcoming promotional process within the program. Cadets will have the opportunity to take a written examination and participate in an oral interview.

The second half of the evening focused on motor vehicle stops. Cadets rotated through different roles, serving as both the occupants of vehicles being stopped and the police officers conducting the stops. This allowed everyone to experience the situation from multiple perspectives.

Every cadet participated, challenged themselves, and gave it their all! 👏

One of the most important parts of our program is continuing to build upon the skills and knowledge learned in previous lessons and carrying those concepts forward into future training. Each meeting provides an opportunity to learn something new while reinforcing what the cadets have already been taught.

8/12/26 meeting:

We began the evening with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Cadets Viveiros and Sampson, followed by a uniform inspection led by Cadet Torres.

The classroom portion of the meeting focused on Barricaded Subjects and Hostage Situations. These lessons mark the beginning of our preparation for the annual NERLEEA Tactical Challenge, held each October.

After the classroom instruction, Cadets transitioned into hands-on practical training. They participated in scenarios based on experiencing an ambush situation in a public setting.

It was especially exciting to have several of our newer members in attendance. They jumped right into the training, which is exciting to see.

We also had some drill and ceremony (aka marching) thrown into the mix led by Cadet Sampson. These lessons are beneficial for cadets who plan on attending future Cadet Police Academies and hopefully marching in the fire department parade next year.

Great work by everyone tonight. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next meeting!

Today, we recognize International Youth Day, a day dedicated to celebrating young people around the world and recognizing the important role they play in our communities and our future.

International Youth Day is an opportunity to highlight the voices, ideas, accomplishments, and potential of young people, while encouraging them to be involved, take on leadership opportunities, and make a difference in the world around them.

It’s also a reminder that young people deserve opportunities to learn, grow, be heard, build confidence, and discover their potential. The experiences and opportunities we provide our youth today can help shape the leaders, neighbors, and community members of tomorrow.

Here in Beacon Falls, we are fortunate to see that potential firsthand through our Beacon Falls Police Cadet Program. Our Cadets are just one example of young people stepping forward, getting involved, challenging themselves, and becoming active members of their community. 💙💙

Today, we celebrate all young people and the difference they can make — today and in the future.

🐾💙 Happy Assistance Dog Day! 💙🐾

Today, August 4th, we celebrate the incredible assistance dogs who make a life-changing difference every single day. These amazing animals provide support, independence, comfort, and companionship to people who rely on them.

From guiding and alerting to helping with everyday tasks, assistance dogs are more than just highly trained animals — they are trusted partners, dedicated helpers, and an important part of their person’s life.

Today is also a great reminder to respect working dogs. When you see an assistance dog, remember: they’re on the job! Please don’t pet, call to, feed, or distract them without permission.

To all the assistance dogs and the people who train, raise, and care for them — thank you for the incredible work you do!

7/29/26 meeting:

Tonight’s Beacon Falls Police Cadet meeting was another great night of learning, teamwork, and hands-on training.

We began the evening with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a uniform inspection led by Cadet Torres.

Before moving into the night’s training, we held a moment of silence in honor of retired Torrington Police Officer Robert “Robbie” Simon, who passed away this past week after a courageous battle with cancer.

The classroom portion of the meeting focused on fi****ms safety, building searches, and room-clearing fundamentals. These lessons mark the beginning of our preparation for the annual NERLEEA Tactical Challenge, held each October.

After the classroom instruction, Cadets transitioned into hands-on practical training. They learned and practiced proper handcuffing techniques, room entry tactics for various room layouts and door positions, and building search techniques such as triangle and diamond formations, emphasizing communication, coordination, and Officer safety.

It was especially exciting to have several of our newer members in attendance. They jumped right into the training, making this an engaging and valuable introduction to the program.

We wrapped up the evening with some physical training—because there’s nothing wrong with a little constructive exercise to get the blood flowing!

Congratulations to Cadet Steczkowski on the successful completion of the 2026 Cadet Police Academy! 🚔

Over the course of the week, cadets were challenged both mentally and physically, each cadet demonstrated dedication, resilience, and a commitment to personal growth.

Today marks the culmination of countless hours of hard work, learning, and preparation. The confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills developed throughout the academy will continue to benefit these young men and women far beyond this week.

Congratulations to Cadet Steczkowski and the entire Charlie squad on winning the Basic Program Marching Competition. An incredible accomplishment Well deserved! 👏🏆

We are incredibly proud of everything Meg accomplished. We are grateful to the instructors, advisors, law enforcement professionals, and supporters who made this experience possible.

This week has been packed with hands-on experiences that challenged our cadets both mentally and physically. From responding to suspicious activity calls and conducting felony traffic stops at the Mock Police Department, to defensive tactics in the Red Suit, classroom academics, and spirited competitions, every activity has helped build confidence, leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking.

As they head into their final day, our cadets are putting all of their training together—applying the lessons they’ve learned, supporting one another, and continuing to grow with every challenge.

The dedication, resilience, and professionalism they’ve shown throughout the academy have been outstanding. We’re proud of how far they’ve come and look forward to seeing them finish the week strong. Congratulations to all of the cadets on an incredible academy experience!

The Police Cadet Academy is winding down, but the learning hasn’t slowed down! 🚔🌟

This week has been packed with hands-on experiences that challenged our cadets both mentally and physically.
