On Sunday, November 12th, at 5pm, and , in collaboration with Beacon At-Large City Councilmember Paloma Wake , will screen Lakota Nation vs. the United States, with respect for Native American Heritage Month.
The film centers the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota peoples’ fight to protect the Black Hills, their sacred land. A provocative, visually stunning testament to a land and its people who have survived removal, exploitation and genocide – and whose best days are yet to come.
This long view of the land which includes so-called Mount Rushmore is the subject of the documentary and puts into critical context the stakes of Indigenous sovereignty.
Screening is by suggested donation, with all proceeds sent to the First Peoples Fund, which provides direct funding, resources, and professional development to Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native artists, culture bearers, and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI).
