On Sunday, November 12th, at 5pm, and , in collaboration with Beacon At-Large City Councilmember Paloma Wake , will screen Lakota Nation vs. the United States, with respect for Native American Heritage Month.

The film centers the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota peoples’ fight to protect the Black Hills, their sacred land. A provocative, visually stunning testament to a land and its people who have survived removal, exploitation and genocide – and whose best days are yet to come.

This long view of the land which includes so-called Mount Rushmore is the subject of the documentary and puts into critical context the stakes of Indigenous sovereignty.

Screening is by suggested donation, with all proceeds sent to the First Peoples Fund, which provides direct funding, resources, and professional development to Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native artists, culture bearers, and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI).

Good Cause Eviction in Beacon still stands. Immediately reach out to myself or if you or anyone you know is facing housing issues. However, inaction on the state level puts our community’s housing security in jeopardy.

I was proud to sign this letter calling on to pass NOW.

As a renter and a City Councilmember, I was proud to fight for and win Good Cause protections for Beacon. Now I’m proud to join fellow electeds across NY doing everything we can for our constituents who badly need protections to fight skyrocketing rent costs and evictions.

Inaction on the state level has backed us into a corner and it’s time for Albany to act.

⏱️Take 15minutes to share YOUR idea to address Climate change 🌎

🗣️We know our city is made better through an Engaged and Active public. So your Councilmembers are taking a pro-active role in making Your government more accessible and participatory. The Community Quarterlies give a platform for Beaconites to share ideas with each other and vote through a set of priorities for the City Council to address moving forward.

🤨Ok but WHY? This is a platform to gather tangible community support for your ideas! Ideas with the most votes at the end of the process will be assigned a Councilmember to help mentor the idea to fruition and you will end up with a list of fellow Beaconites who support your idea and may even volunteer to help make it happen

💫 Thank you 🙏 to all of the amazing volunteers that made 2022 happen! And cheers to brand new but fearless leader along with the rest of the committee and sponsors for bringing the day back with such spirit!

Had the honor of walking in the parade with my fellow Beacon Electeds: George, Molly, Justice, Wren, Dan, Mayor Lee Kyriacou, Legislator Yvette Valdez-Smith and you can see Judge Johnston and Assemblymember Jacobson in the back…special thanks for the rainbow boa to Jennifer

But most of all enjoyed the opportunity to chat with so many Beacon community members and organizations and even purchasing/collecting some goodies throughout the day including some beautiful postcard reminders from to FILL OUT THE COMMUNITY SURVEY (link in bio)

The city is also currently conduction two important surveys - one to determine needs around a potential new Community Center and one to gather data for the Municipal Composting program pilot that has been running this year.
