Alpine County Board of Supervisors Proclaims 250th Anniversary of the United States and Announces Summer of Community Celebrations

MARKLEEVILLE, Calif. — The Alpine County Board of Supervisors has officially proclaimed the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of the United States of America, recognizing this historic milestone and encouraging residents, visitors, schools, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups to participate in educational, cultural, patriotic, and community activities throughout 2026.

The resolution, adopted by the Board of Supervisors, commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, and recognizes two and a half centuries of American history, service, sacrifice, innovation, and democratic governance. The resolution further acknowledges the ongoing pursuit of the Nation’s founding ideals of liberty, self-governance, equality, civic responsibility, and opportunity for all Americans.

As part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration, Alpine County will host and support a variety of events and activities throughout the summer that celebrate community, history, recreation, arts, culture, and patriotism. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in the following events:

Don't miss out on this fun and FREE community event. The plant exchange takes place Friday and Saturday June 5th & 6th from 12:30 to 5:30 at the Bear Valley Library. We will also provide an outdoor table with plastic pots and potting soil to use for your new plant babies or to repot your own houseplants.

The Teddy Bear Fair will take place Friday May 29th from 2-4pm. The Fair will be located in front of the library if the sun comes out, otherwise we will be inside the Perry Walther Building next door. See you tomorrow!
