Marvin Wayne Skinner, born September 15, 1930, in Vredenburgh, Alabama, passed away peacefully March 5, 2026, at the age of 95. He was the son of Royal Edward Skinner and Mary Edna Shirah Skinner and was raised in Monroe County, Alabama.
Marvin graduated from Monroeville High School, where he played baritone and bass horn in the school band. He later taught himself to play the saxophone and performed with a local band. On August 31, 1950, he married Lillie Eugenia Kennedy. They shared 59 years of marriage until her passing on October 30, 2009.
In December 1951, Marvin enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and served as an aircraft mechanic and engine specialist. His assignments included duty stations in Texas, California, Illinois, Tennessee, Utah, and Arkansas. After his honorable discharge in 1955, he continued his career in aviation and aircraft engine testing, eventually working at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
Marvin was known for his mechanical skill, strong work ethic, and resourcefulness. He enjoyed repairing appliances, working on engines, raising bees, gardening, and flying model airplanes. He valued self-reliance and took pride in providing for his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Eugenia Kennedy Skinner.
He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Diane Gatlin and Pam Craven; his siblings, Barbara Ann Priester, Roy Skinner, Richard Skinner, Kenneth Skinner, and Jerry Skinner; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marvin will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his commitment to his work, and his devotion to his family.
Visitation will be Saturday March 14, 2026, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Saturday March 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pam Barnhardt officiating.
Interment will follow in the Pineville Cemetery in Beatrice, AL.
