Picked up a huge box of books and once I get them all sanitized and quarantined, I will begin adding them to the library. I have some children's Christmas books coming out of disinfecting and quarantine in the next day or two. A post will let you know when they are added

Added today: “A Man Called Ove” I read this a few months ago and when I finished it I was kinda sad. I knew I was really gonna miss the old guy. This is a great book to challenge your first impressions as well as a call to love on the seemingly unlovable. Ove reminded me a little of some men I know and love. My husband, my dad, my grandpa... three generations of curmudgeons in various aspects of their lives. We never know what another’s struggle may be. We may never know how even a small kindness can melt away hurt and bitterness. We also may never know how we can actually “rob” someone of blessings when we don’t allow them to help us. Sometimes asking for help allows someone to find joy and purpose in ministering to another. If you can get past Ove’s preparations due to his grief, you will find the silver lining in the joy and purpose a life can find outside of grief. I really enjoyed this book!

As an former educator and even as a flight attendant, I have seen many a ‘Velveteen Rabbit” in my day. What makes a child gravitate towards one toy and love it beyond all others and then love it to the point of being unrecognizable?

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room. ... "Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit. "Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt.”

The Velveteen Rabbit has been added to the children’s section of JSLFL, but it is a wonderful story for all ages!

Adding an adolescent book to the JSLFL today. There is always a book that stays with you in some dramatic way even though it has been YEARS since you read it.

In 5th grade our teacher read Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls to the class after lunch each day. I’m not sure if she did this on purpose (to create a thirst for reading), but she was unable to finish the book at the point where an apparent pivotal moment was about to happen. The rest of the school year the three copies the library had of this book were on perpetual waitlist. This heartwarming coming of age story of a boy growing up in the Ozarks during the depression shows the bond between a boy and his dogs….an exciting tale of adventure, love and loss you’ll never forget.

Added a fun Christmas book to the Library today...Skipping Christmas is a funny short novel by John Grisham and such a departure from his usual legal thrillers. The commercialization of Christmas adds great financial, emotional stress, chaos and craziness, but apparently, so does the desire to figure out how to escape it. When I read this book, I could totally relate to Nora Krank when her husband declared they’d skip Christmas. I read this book shortly after my oldest daughter moved off on her own while I pouted. Later, when this book was made into a movie “Christmas with the Kranks”, I was delighted to see Jamie Lee Curtis in the role of Nora.

Just added to the library today in the children's section:
The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell is a story about the true spirit of Christmas and a lesson on giving. You are neither too small, too flawed, not too lowly to give a gift from the heart. This beautifully illustrated book has been a favorite for as far back as I can remember.

They say the worst part about finishing a great book, is having to find another one just as good or better than the last. I hope this little library page will help. I would love to encourage book recommendations and hopefully help someone in their quest to find the next great book. What is your ultimate favorite book? What book did you read that changed you, or stuck with you, or transported you, or that you just couldn't put down?
