The Carteret County Republican Party Executive Committee is accepting applications for appointment consideration to fill the District 1 Board of Education (BOE) seat recently vacated by Dana Vinson Mull.
There are two statutory requirements for eligibility for this seat: 1) the applicant must be a registered Republican in Carteret County; and 2) the applicant must live in District 1, which includes the Bogue precinct, portions of the Cape Carteret/Cedar Point precinct, Peletier precinct, and Stella precinct.
Applications may be requested by emailing Carteret County Grand Old Party (CCGOP) Chairman Wanda Nelson Fowler at [email protected] or picked up at CCGOP Headquarters in Brandywine Crossing shopping plaza (5370-K U.S. Highway 70), Morehead City between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. All applications must be returned to the GOP headquarters by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23.
The official appointment to fill the vacancy is done by the Carteret County Board of Education, taking into account the recommendation from the Republican Party. The CCGOP Executive Committee, by N.C. General Statute, is empowered to recommend the individual for appointment, provided the recommendation is made within 30 days after the vacancy. If the recommendation is presented within that 30-day period, the BOE must appoint the GOP’s recommendation.
The CCGOP Executive Committee will hold their monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. Eligible applicants will be expected to appear before the group to speak about their desire to be seated to the board of education and will take questions from members. After this informational session, executive committee members will select the recommended appointee by secret ballot.
