Beaufort County Seeks 300 New Poll Workers for 2026 General Election

BEAUFORT, S.C., August 26, 2026 — Beaufort County is calling on residents to serve as poll workers for the November 3, 2026, General Election, with an immediate need for approximately 300 new workers to help staff polling locations across the county. Poll workers who complete training and work on Election Day will receive a stipend and bonus from Beaufort County totaling $235.

"We have been fortunate to have capable citizens willing to attend training and serve their neighbors at the polls," said Mr. Matthew Sweeney, Chairman of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Beaufort County. "Their commitment is essential, but with continued growth in voter registrations, precincts, and polling locations, we now have an urgent need to recruit new poll workers across Beaufort County."

Beaufort County is one of the top 10 counties in South Carolina by registered voters and administers elections for 134 precincts countywide. With several statewide and local races on the ballot, county election officials anticipate strong turnout for the November 3 General Election.

"We encourage Beaufort County residents who care about serving their community and supporting well-run elections to join us," said Ms. Jean Felix, Director of the Board of Voter Registration and Elections of Beaufort County.

Early voting for the U.S. Senate Special Republican Primary Runoff begins Wednesday, August 19. Ahead of the early voting period, the State Election Commission (SEC) is sharing important information for eligible voters who plan to vote early.

Key Tips for Early Voting

Who: Not every voter is eligible to participate in the Special Republican Primary Runoff. Voters who participated in the June Democratic Primary or Runoff are not eligible to vote in this Runoff.

When: The early voting period is from Wednesday, August 19 through Friday August 21.
Time: Early voting polling locations are open from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Where: Before leaving home, voters should verify their early voting polling locations, as some early voting polling locations may have changed for this August election. Voters can check their early voting polling location on scVOTES.gov or contact their county voter registration office.

What do I need to bring?: Voters will need to present one of the following forms of current and valid Photo IDs when checking in to vote.
Acceptable Photo IDs include:
• S.C. Driver’s License
• S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card
• S.C. Voter Registration Card with Photo
• Federal Military ID
• U.S. Passport

Candidate Filing Opens: Noon, Tuesday, July 21

Candidate Filing Closes: Noon, Tuesday, July 28

Deadline to apply for absentee ballot: July 31st by 5:00 p.m.

Early Voting for Special Primary: August 5, 6, 7 from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Early Voting Locations:
- Main Voter Registration Office in Beaufort: 15 John Galt Rd
- Bluffton Library: 120 Palmetto Way
- USCB HHI: 1 Sand Shark Dr
- St Helena Library: 6355 Jonathan Francis Senior Rd.

The Statewide Special Primary will be held Tuesday, August 11.

The South Carolina State Election Commission has completed its evaluation of existing South Carolina election law to determine voter eligibility for the August 11 Special Republican Primary. Based on that evaluation, voters who participated in the June Democratic Primary are not eligible to vote in the August 11 Special Republican Primary. Voters who either participated in the June Republican Primary or did not vote in either party’s June primary are eligible to vote in the August 11 Special Republican Primary.
