The responded to 75 emergencies this week; including, (54) medical emergencies with (2) cardiac arrests, (2) outdoor fires, ( 8 ) motor vehicle collisions 75% involving injury. In addition, (6) building inspections and (2) public training events were conducted and ( 8 ) new community Immediate Responders created.

INCREASING COMMUNITY RESILIENCY! The and City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department teamed up this week to train Beaufort County School District teachers, staff, and administrators on becoming Immediate Responders. Students learned about responding to an overdose involving opiates, how to use a to stop critical bleeding, and certified in adult, child, and infant CPR with AED. This training is open to the public and free. Message for more information.

Widespread rainfall is expected to develop Friday night into early Saturday, with highest amounts on Saturday, though rainfall will likely persist into Sunday. New moon phases will bring elevated astronomical tides this weekend. Heavy rainfall occurring during high tides may lead to rapid coastal flooding, including in Savannah and Charleston.

TRADITION! HONOR! In the 1800s before modern technology allowed the fire helmets of today to be made of thermoplastics and fiberglass composites, it was made of leather for its toughness and resistance to breakage and burning. Due to their cost and difficulty maintaining them in the increasingly toxic fires of today, their use has declined, but they remain a symbol of honor and tradition. Shift III came together to purchase and present their Battalion Chief, Matt Maichel, a leather helmet in appreciation for his leadership, guidance, and his efforts in ensuring that that they return home healthy and safe to their families at the end of their shift. Well done BC Maichel.

The Friendly Firefighter continues to make the rounds to introduce himself, or herself, to our young students so they can see us in our Community Helper Suite and sit in a fire truck. Who doesn't like that!?!?! Truth? We had just as much fun as they did!!! We truly enjoy the great partnerships with our local schools and daycares! It takes a village you know.... thank you Peace of Mind Academy for having us again!!! We look forward to our next meeting!!!

Just before 6am today the Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services Beaufort County Sheriff's Office responded to a vehicle collision with injuries on the Broad River Bridge. South bound traffic was delayed for over an hour while emergency crews assisted the occupants and cleared roadway hazards.
