In Marine Corps Boot Camp every potential new Marine must be able to recite The R***eman's Creed which says in part "This Is My R***e, there are many like it but this one is mine". This video was written with that in mind. This is my story, there are many like it but this one is mine. Obviously there is much more that could have been said but that would have been a pretty long song. The key points in this song and video are that I wanted to be a Marine from an early age. Shaped by movies and television of the early 1960s It became a passion and a dream. After winning an essay contest in the 7th grade with the theme of "What My Country Means to Me", I became even more determined to earn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, which I did on June 28th, 1971 when I walked across the parade deck at Parris Island. The song was written on June 28th, 2026, the 55th anniversary of that day. To every one who holds the title Marine and to every family member who supports their journey, I say to you......Semper Fidelis.

More than five decades after his extraordinary actions at the D**g Ha Bridge, Marine Corps legend Colonel John Ripley has received the Medal of Honor.

Last week, Ripley was posthumously recognized for his heroic actions during the Vietnam War, where he repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire to destroy a critical bridge and halt the advance of North Vietnamese forces.

It was in 1963 that I wrote about the Marine Corps while in Jr. High School as part of an essay contest titled, "What My Country Means to Me". I won that contest and thus began my journey to become a US Marine. Ironically, it was a TV show called "The Lieutenant" starring Gary Lockwood that made me want to become a Marine Officer by going to the Naval Academy. Well, grades weren't good enough for that, so I did it the hard way....through the ranks. In case you're now interested, here's the rest of my story. Once a Marine, Always a Marine. Semper Fi.
