Today, we honor and celebrate the incredible women who have served our nation with courage, strength, and dedication.

On Women Veterans Day, we recognize the trailblazers who broke barriers, the leaders who continue to inspire, and the countless women whose service has helped protect our freedoms.

Thank you to all women Veterans for your sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering commitment to serving something greater than yourselves. Your impact reaches far beyond your military service and continues to strengthen our communities every day.

To every woman Veteran: We see you, we appreciate you, and we honor you today and every day. Thank you for paving the way for future generations and proving that leadership, courage, and service know no boundaries.

Happy Women Veterans Day!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Separating from the Military or Recently Separated? ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Donโ€™t wait years later to learn about the benefits you may have earned through your military service.

Whether youโ€™re preparing to leave active duty or have already separated, now is the time to understand what benefits and resources may be available to you and your family.

A Veterans Service Officer (VSO) can help you:

โœ… File a Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD) claim before separation

โœ… Submit a VA disability claim after separation

โœ… Enroll in VA health care

โœ… Apply for education benefits such as the GI Bill

โœ… Add eligible dependents to your VA benefits

โœ… Understand state and local veteran programs

โœ… Navigate claim decisions, supplemental claims, and appeals

Most importantly, these services are provided at no cost.

Donโ€™t assume you donโ€™t qualify. Ask the question.

Whether you separated last month, last year, or decades ago, it is never too late to explore the benefits you may have earned through your service.

If youโ€™re in Beaufort County and need assistance, contact the Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Office at 843-255-6880.

Your military service was an investment in our nation. Make sure youโ€™re informed about the benefits available to you and your family.

This Memorial Day, honors and remembers the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, we encourage our community to pause and reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day โ€” a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives defending our country.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our Gold Star families and to all who continue to carry the legacy of our fallen heroes.

Please join us in honoring their memory.

Each year in Beaufort County, SC, thousands of service members transition from military service through retirement, EAS, and medical separation.

What many people do not realize is that transition affects far more than just the service member.

It impacts:
โœ” Families
โœ” Healthcare
โœ” Employment
โœ” Education planning
โœ” VA disability claims
โœ” Long-term financial stability

Beaufort County Veteran Service Officers regularly speak with transitioning service members about:

โœ” Understanding separation timelines
โœ” Gathering important documents
โœ” Learning about available VA programs
โœ” Understanding BDD eligibility
โœ” Understanding the VA claims process

One of the biggest things we see is Veterans waiting until after separation to start learning about benefits they could have learned about months earlier.

The earlier a service member starts preparing, the smoother the transition process can be for both the Veteran and their family.

If you are preparing to separate or retire โ€” or know someone who is โ€” start asking questions early.

โœ” Attend TRS
โœ” Gather important documents
โœ” Understand timelines and deadlines
โœ” Speak with an accredited VSO
โœ” Learn what benefits may be available to you and your family

One Veteran. One Family. One Transition at a Time.

๐Ÿšจ VA OVERPAYMENT SCAM ALERT โ€“ READ THIS ๐Ÿšจ

Veterans are being targeted by scammers pretending to be the VA, claiming you owe an โ€œoverpaymentโ€ and demanding immediate payment.

โš ๏ธ Red Flags to Watch For:
โŒ Urgent calls or emails demanding payment
โŒ Requests for gift cards, Zelle, Cash App, or crypto
โŒ Threats of arrest or loss of benefits
โŒ Asking for your SSN or banking info
โŒ Pressure to โ€œact nowโ€

๐Ÿ‘‰ The VA will NEVER:
โœ”๏ธ Demand payment by phone
โœ”๏ธ Ask for gift cards or wire transfers
โœ”๏ธ Threaten arrest
โœ”๏ธ Ask for personal info over the phone

โœ… If you truly owe a debt, the VA will notify you by official mail through the VA Debt Management Center, and youโ€™ll have options like:
โ€ข Payment plans
โ€ข Waivers
โ€ข Hardship reviews

๐Ÿ“ž VA Debt Management Center: 800-827-0648
๐ŸŒ https://www.va.gov/manage-va-debt

๐Ÿ›‘ If you get a suspicious call:
1๏ธโƒฃ Donโ€™t pay
2๏ธโƒฃ Donโ€™t give info
3๏ธโƒฃ Hang up
4๏ธโƒฃ Call VA directly
5๏ธโƒฃ Report it to VA OIG or FTC

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ When in doubt โ€” talk to a VSO before paying anything.
Scammers count on fear. Donโ€™t give it to them.
