Citizens and businesses, as we prepare for temperatures to drop dramatically over the next week, please take a moment to protect outdoor backflow preventers from freezing to prevent costly repairs and/or disruption of service.

Just like the heat, cold weather has its hazards. Make sure to prepare your home and your family before it arrives. Here are some tips to get you started:

-Check your home's plumbing to prevent burst pipes.
-Make preparations for your pets or outdoor animals.
-Inspect your home's heating sources to make sure they are working properly.

📢 Home Winterization from the Water & Sewer Department 📢

❄️ Drain your water heater - hard water can cause sediment buildup
❄️ Check for leaks, breaks, or compromised pipes - these can cause pipes to burst from the increased pressure
❄️ Insulate exterior pipes with padding - This reduces the chance of freezing and bursting
❄️ Winterize outdoor faucets and appliances - drain and disconnect any hoses and store them until the season is over

It's always better to be safe than sorry. You never know what kind of weather Texas may surprise us with!

🎶And a partridge in a pear... citrus... peach... and fig tree?! 🎶

The Parks department has been busy planting edible fruit trees as a way to help combat food deserts in the City. Peach trees were planted at Rogers Park, figs were planted at Charlton Pollard, pear trees were planted at Sprott Park (putting pears back in Pear Orchard 😊), and citrus will be planted at Klein Park in a few weeks with the hopes of adding seasonal vegetables this spring. They take 2-3 years to fully start producing, but how creative and innovative is that?

🎄❗Beau on the Geaux: The LAST Clue 🎄❗

One last adventure that fateful day,
Beau stumbled upon the Beaumonsters in a peculiar way.
Their grins as vast as the Texas sky,
Welcoming all with a warm, friendly "hi."

🎄❗🎄❗🎄❗🎄❗🎄
Spreading joy through the land is Beau's grand plan,
With him comes shenanigans wherever he may land.
Keep an eye out for Beau's holiday spree,
For in Beaumont, this mischievous gnome's as wild as can be.
You never know when or where he may appear,
From shelves to streets he roams with delight,
Spreading joy and cheer, morning to night.
The first to find him makes you wise,
And you’ll be rewarded with a handsome prize.

📢 Public Notification of Unauthorized Discharge of Domestic Wastewater 📢

A spill from a collection facility has occurred at 530 Hillebrandt Rd. Pipeline contractors damaged a pressurized sewer main at this location on 12/18/23. Water Utilities crews quickly isolated the pressurized sewer main and began repairs. The wastewater discharge was kept within the confines of the excavation pit. The area was cleaned and disinfected 12/19/23. The estimated amount of wastewater discharge is 182,000 gallons.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), our governing body has been notified and all appropriate measures have been taken to ensure the health and safety of citizens.

Precautionary Statements:

✔️ Persons using private drinking water supply wells located within ½ mile of the spill site or within the potentially affected area should use only water that has been distilled or boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute for all personal uses including drinking, cooking, bathing, and tooth brushing. Individuals with private water wells should have their well water tested and disinfected, if necessary, prior to discontinuing distillation or boiling.

✔️ Persons who purchase water from a public water supply may contact their water supply distributor to determine if the water is safe for personal use. The public should avoid contact with waste material, soil, or water in the area potentially affected by the spill.

✔️ If the public comes into contact with waste material, soil, or water potentially affected by the spill, they should bathe and wash clothes thoroughly as soon as possible.

Please contact Mike Harris, Director of Water/Wastewater Operations at 409-785-3003 with any questions or concerns.
