This morning, we 100 years with United Way of Orange County and had breakfast with other amazing non-profits in our area that are supported by United Way.

Rick Dearing, member of the Board of Directors, gave a compelling testimony about the importance of caring about community outside yourself and how he began volunteering with the United Way.

"Thank God there are people who will wake up on a Thursday morning in the rain to make a difference for someone else" - Rick Dearing.

Thank you to the United Way and for everyone who volunteers and donates to improve the lives of people they might never meet.

While school has started and fall is approaching, we are still thinking about summer! In August, we went to the beautiful South Padre Island for the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) Conference. We were encouraged to be around other people across our state working hard to end Sexual Assault to women, children, and men in Texas and we learned a lot that we are bringing back to the area!

Tracey Lewis from Texas Department of Family and Protective Services stopped by the Domestic Task Force to educate participants on the services and misconceptions of Adult Protective Services.

"We are working to change the narrative in our community. Our goal is to keep adults safely in their home."

The Domestic Violence Taskforce, held at Family Services, is a group of individuals from various organizations (from the legal system to service providers) working together to bridge gaps in services to best support survivors of Domestic Violence.

A huge THANK YOU to Grace Nonprofit in Orange, Texas and the Tom and Della Gillam Literacy Academy for collecting and donating children’s clothing to support the families staying at our shelter. These generous donations will help make sure children have clean, comfortable clothes as they head into a new school year!

Your generosity reminds our families that they are not alone—and that their community cares about them. Thank you for helping us provide a little extra comfort, confidence, and normalcy during a time of transition. 💙
