In December 2025, the California Highway Patrol and California Department of Motor Vehicles launched the Forwarded Actions for Speeding Tickets (FAST) pilot program to take quicker action against drivers caught traveling more than 100 mph.

FAST automatically refers these drivers to the DMV for review, independent of court proceedings, to determine whether immediate action, including license suspension or revocation, is warranted.

From January through May 2026, CHP submitted more than 3,200 FAST referrals. DMV responded with more than 3,000 suspension and re-examination actions, 94.3% of which were upheld following administrative review and hearings.

Speeding puts everyone on the road at risk. Slow down. Follow the speed limit. Get there safely.

🚨 COMMERCIAL DRIVER ARRESTED FOR DUI 🚨

Last week, CHP San Gorgonio Pass Area officers stopped a 49-year-old Idaho man driving a commercial vehicle on westbound Interstate 10 near Cherry Valley Boulevard for excessive speed, failing to maintain his lane, and being out of lane.

During the traffic stop, our officers observed signs and symptoms consistent with alcohol impairment. The driver was subsequently found to have a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) more than twice the legal limit for a commercial driver and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

Commercial drivers are held to a lower BAC standard because of the increased responsibility associated with operating large commercial vehicles.

🔹 Lower BAC Limit: It is illegal to operate a commercial motor vehicle with a BAC of 0.04% or higher. For comparison, the limit for most noncommercial drivers age 21 and over is 0.08%.

🔹 CDL Disqualification: A first conviction for DUI or operating a commercial motor vehicle with a BAC of 0.04% or higher can result in a commercial driving disqualification of at least one year.

🔹 Lifetime Consequences: A second qualifying DUI conviction in a separate incident can result in lifetime disqualification from operating a commercial motor vehicle.

DUI conviction while operating a noncommercial vehicle can also result in CDL disqualification. Whether you’re operating a passenger vehicle or a commercial motor vehicle, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The California Highway Patrol remains committed to keeping California’s roadways safe through education, enforcement, and proactive traffic safety efforts.

🚨 TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO FELONY ARREST 🚨

A routine traffic stop for speeding led to the arrest of a 36-year-old Beaumont man after CHP San Gorgonio Pass Area officers discovered multiple weapons and narcotics violations.

During the traffic stop, the officer located:
🔹 A non-serialized “ghost gun” assault rifle
🔹 An unregistered handgun
🔹 Multiple loaded magazines
🔹 Co***ne
🔹 Ecstasy
🔹 Ma*****na
🔹 Drug paraphernalia consistent with the sale of narcotics

Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, detectives from the CHP Border Division – Major Crimes Unit obtained and executed a search warrant on the suspect’s residence, which lead to the seizure of additional narcotics, ammunition, and money. CHP officers remain committed to keeping our roadways and communities safe through proactive enforcement and investigations.

The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reminding motorists to slow down and drive responsibly as they head out for Independence Day celebrations statewide. To address unsafe driving and keep California’s roads safe, the CHP will conduct a Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) from July 2 at 6 p.m. to July 5 at 11:59 p.m., with an emphasis on combating speeding.

The CHP encourages everyone to take the following safety precautions:

✅ Plan ahead and designate a sober driver before celebrations begin.
✅ Use a rideshare service, taxi or public transportation if you have been drinking.
✅ Host responsibly and ensure guests have a safe way home.
✅ Never drive under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or other impairing substances.
✅ Always wear your seat belt; it remains one of the most effective ways to reduce injuries and save lives in a crash.
✅ If someone is about to drive impaired, speak up, take the keys, and help them get home safely.
✅ Help remove a dangerous driver from the road by dialing 9-1-1.

A seat belt can be the difference between walking away from a crash and never making it home.

From May 18–31, the California Highway Patrol will participate in the national Click It or Ticket campaign with increased seat belt enforcement. Officers will be stopping drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up.

Too many lives are lost each year because someone chose not to wear a seat belt. In a crash, being ejected from a vehicle is often deadly, and airbags alone are not enough to protect you.

Buckle up correctly every trip:
✔️ Shoulder belt across your chest
✔️ Lap belt low across your hips
❌ Never behind your back or under your arm
