City crews continue working to assess storm impacts and restore normal operations. Additional updates regarding facility reopenings will be provided as they become available.

City Offices Closed due to Inclement Weather

City facilities will be closed to the public on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, beginning at 1p.m. All City meetings scheduled for today are cancelled. City offices will reopen at normal business hours on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for our area, we are expecting to experience heavy rain, wind, and localized flooding. Please use caution while driving and only travel if absolutely necessary.

The following City facilities will be impacted:

City Hall
Event Facilities
Municipal Court
Public Libraries
Recreation
Public Health
Animal Care

Solid Waste, the Landfill, and Municipal Transit (Zip) will cease operations at 3 p.m. today.

Public Safety personnel and other essential City Staff will continue to be available to meet the needs of the community.

Please monitor the City’s website and social media pages for information as this event unfolds. Be sure you are registered with Southeast Texas Alerting Network (STAN) to receive weather and community alerts on your cell phone or email.

Goddess was surrendered after her owner experienced health issues that made it difficult to continue caring for her. She has a calm, low-energy personality and doesn't need much to keep her happy. Goddess can be a little shy when you first meet her, but with some patience and love, she quickly starts to warm up and show her sweet side. She walks well on a leash and listens nicely to commands, making her an easygoing companion. All Goddess really needs is a cozy home, a little patience, and someone who will shower her with love. If you're looking for a laid-back girl who would be happy simply spending time by your side, Goddess is ready to meet you!

Tropical Storm Edouard is expected to make landfall soon. While there is no need for evacuation, as this will mostly be rain, this is a great reminder to make sure you and your pets are PETpared for the possibility of future hurricanes and emergencies!

Hurricane season continues through the end of November, so now is the time to create a plan and make sure your pet’s emergency supplies are ready. Your pet emergency kit should include:

• Food and drinking water for several days
• Any necessary medications
• Leashes, collars, harnesses and secure identification tags
• A crate or carrier, if needed
• Copies of veterinary and vaccination records
• Pet waste bags and other daily necessities
• A current photo of your pet in case they become lost

Make sure your pet’s microchip information and identification tags are up to date, and keep a recent photo of your pet easily accessible. Most importantly, have a plan that includes your pets! If you need to evacuate, do not leave your pets behind. Identify pet-friendly hotels, shelters, family members or friends who may be able to help, and know where you can take your pets before an emergency happens.

You never know when a storm may change course or when another emergency could occur. Don’t wait until the last minute. PETpare now!
