SGPWA is putting water to work after the Department of Water Resources increased the State Water Project allocation to 45%.

The increased allocation, which follows improved precipitation in late spring, brings SGPWA’s total water supply portfolio to 17,035 acre-feet across all sources and will support expanded groundwater recharge efforts throughout the Pass area. Some of that recharge will take place at Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District facilities, demonstrating how regional partnerships help maximize every available drop of water.

“When we work together, the Pass area benefits,” said Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District General Manager Dan Jaggers. “This partnership with SGPWA allows us to recharge more water locally and improve water reliability across the region.”

The additional recharge capacity will help store more water underground and better prepare the region for future dry conditions.

Since 2021, SGPWA has partnered with the California Rural Water Association to strengthen small water systems across our region, helping disadvantaged communities build capacity, improve operations, and secure critical funding.

This is work that happens behind the scenes, but its impact is undeniable.

SGPWA covers the cost of technical assistance so small water providers can access critical support without added financial burden. We also help position these systems to secure outside grant funding, turning opportunities into lasting infrastructure improvements.

Recent accomplishments include:

• A 2025 grant application for Cherry Valley Water Company to rehabilitate a storage reservoir
• Gap funding support for Cabazon Water District as it completes 105 isolation valve replacements
• A rate study and capital planning support for High Valleys Water District, including a Proposition 218 process
• Drought relief grant support and implementation for Banning Heights Mutual Water Company

By adding value to grant applications and strengthening operations, we help local providers move from need to action.

This is what investment in wildfire preparedness looks like: Strong partnerships. Smart infrastructure. Faster response times. Better protection for the Pass area.

What started as a 2-acre vegetation fire in Cabazon had the potential to grow to 700 acres. Instead, the Lemon Fire was stopped at 14 acres with minimal damage.

SGPWA’s Heli-Hydrant system played a critical role in the firefight, allowing helicopters to refill water within seconds and stay closer to the fire during suppression efforts. Both Cabazon Heli-Hydrant sites were used as firefighters responded to spot fires, flare-ups, and cleanup operations.

to a major step forward for regional water reliability.

In April 2022, SGPWA approved a critical water transfer agreement with the City of Ventura. By December 2022, that agreement was finalized, securing a long-term imported water supply for our region.

This action increased SGPWA’s State Water Project supply to as much as 27,300 acre-feet per year for the next 20 years, delivered through the East Branch Extension.

SGPWA continues to take action today to protect tomorrow’s water supply.

Reliable water infrastructure is the foundation of a strong local economy. It supports agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, and small businesses that depend on a consistent supply to operate, grow, and compete.

Behind every local job is water keeping that work moving.

At SGPWA, we plan for reliability so businesses can plan for the future. When water systems are strong, industries stay open, employers retain their workforce, and new opportunities take root.

Water reliability also drives investment. Businesses choose locations where essential services are stable and dependable. Our long-term planning helps create the confidence companies need to invest, expand, and bring jobs to our region.

Water is more than infrastructure. It is economic development in action.
