Easter Day

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may, by your life-giving Spirit, be delivered from sin and raised from death; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Matthew 28:1-10
28:1
After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.

28:2
And suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.

28:3
His appearance was like lightning and his clothing white as snow.

28:4
For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men.

28:5
But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.

28:6
He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.

28:7
Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.' This is my message for you."

28:8
So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples.

28:9
Suddenly Jesus met them and said, "Greetings!" And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.

28:10
Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers and sisters to go to Galilee; there they will see me."

03/22/2026

Almighty God, whom truly to know is everlasting life: Grant us so perfectly to know your Son Jesus Christ to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow his steps in the way that leads to eternal glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Romans 8:6-11
Life in the Spirit

8:6
To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

8:7
For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law-- indeed, it cannot,

8:8
and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

8:9
But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

8:10
But if Christ is in you, then the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

8:11
If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you.

the Fourth Sunday in Lent

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Ephesians 5:8-14
Live as children of light

5:8
for once you were darkness, but now in the Lord you are light. Walk as children of light

5:9
for the fruit of the light is found in all that is good and right and true.

5:10
Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord.

5:11
Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness; rather, expose them.

5:12
For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly,

5:13
but everything exposed by the light becomes visible,

5:14
for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, "Sleeper, awake! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

the Third Sunday of Epiphany

Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Matthew 4:12-23
Christ revealed as a prophet

4:12
Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee.

4:13
He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali,

4:14
so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

4:15
"Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles--

4:16
the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned."

4:17
From that time Jesus began to proclaim, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near."

4:18
As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishers.

4:19
And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fisher of people."

4:20
Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

4:21
As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.

4:22
Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

4:23
Jesus went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.

the Second Sunday of Epiphany

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ’s glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

John 1:29-42
Christ revealed as the Lamb of God

1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and declared, "Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

1:30
This is he of whom I said, 'After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.'

1:31
I myself did not know him, but I came baptizing with water for this reason, that he might be revealed to Israel."

1:32
And John testified, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.

1:33
I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'

1:34
And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One."

1:35
The next day John again was standing with two of his disciples,

1:36
and as he watched Jesus walk by he exclaimed, "Look, here is the Lamb of God!"

1:37
The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

1:38
When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, "What are you looking for?" They said to him, "Rabbi" (which translated means Teacher), "where are you staying?"

1:39
He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where he was staying, and they remained with him that day. It was about four o'clock in the afternoon.

1:40
One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

1:41
He first found his brother Simon and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated Anointed).

1:42
He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas" (which is translated Peter).

the First Sunday of Epiphany
The Baptism of Our Lord

Eternal Father, at the baptism of Jesus you revealed him to be your Son, and your Holy Spirit descended upon him like a dove: Grant that we, who are born again by water and the Spirit, may be faithful as your adopted children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Matthew 3:13-17
Christ revealed as God's servant

3:13
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.

3:14
John would have prevented him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

3:15
But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now, for it is proper for us in this way to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented.

3:16
And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw God's Spirit descending like a dove and alighting on him.

3:17
And a voice from the heavens said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."

the Second Sunday of Christmas

O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

John 1:(1-9), 10-18
God with us

1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

1:2
He was in the beginning with God.

1:3
All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being

1:4
in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.

1:5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.

1:6
There was a man sent from God whose name was John.

1:7
He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.

1:8
He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.

1:9
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

1:10
He was in the world, and the world came into being through him, yet the world did not know him.

1:11
He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him.

1:12
But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God,

1:13
who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.

1:14
And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.

1:15
(John testified to him and cried out, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.'")

1:16
From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

1:17
The law indeed was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

1:18
No one has ever seen God. It is the only Son, himself God, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.

the Holy Innocents

December 28

Almighty God, out of the mouths of children you manifest your truth, and by the death of the Holy Innocents at the hands of evil tyrants you show your strength in our weakness: We ask you to mortify all that is evil within us, and so strengthen us by your grace, that we may glorify your holy Name by the innocence of our lives and the constancy of our faith even unto death; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who died for us and now lives with you and the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.

Matthew 2:12-23

And having been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.

The Escape to Egypt
13 Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.’ 14 Then Joseph[h] got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfil what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I have called my son.’

The Massacre of the Infants
16 When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the wise men,[i] he was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had learned from the wise men.[j] 17 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken through the prophet Jeremiah:

18 ‘A voice was heard in Ramah,
wailing and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.’

The Return from Egypt
19 When Herod died, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, 20 ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child’s life are dead.’ 21 Then Joseph[k] got up, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And after being warned in a dream, he went away to the district of Galilee. 23 There he made his home in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, ‘He will be called a Nazorean.’

Christmas Day

Almighty God, you have given your only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born [this day] of a pure virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Luke 2:(1-7), 8-20
The birth of the Messiah revealed to shepherds

2:1
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.

2:2
This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.

2:3
All went to their own towns to be registered.

2:4
Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David.

2:5
He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.

2:6
While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child.

2:7
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no place in the guest room.

2:8
Now in that same region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.

2:9
Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

2:10
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:

2:11
to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.

2:12
This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger."

2:13
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying,

2:14
"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!"

2:15
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us."

2:16
So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph and the child lying in the manger.

2:17
When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child,

2:18
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them,

2:19
and Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart.

2:20
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told them.

the Fourth Sunday in Advent
Annunciation

Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and as we are sorely hindered by our sins from running the race that is set before us, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Romans 1:1-7
Paul's greeting to the church at Rome

1:1
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,

1:2
which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures,

1:3
the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh

1:4
and was declared to be Son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

1:5
through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the gentiles for the sake of his name,

1:6
including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,

1:7
To all God's beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

12/14/2025

the Third Sunday in Advent

O Lord Jesus Christ, you sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Grant that the ministers and stewards of your mysteries may likewise make ready your way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient toward the wisdom of the just, that at your second coming to judge the world, we may be found a people acceptable in your sight; for with the Father and the Holy Spirit you live and reign, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Matthew 11:2-11
The forerunner of Christ

11:2
When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples

11:3
and said to him, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?"

11:4
Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see:

11:5
the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with a skin disease are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them.

11:6
And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me."

11:7
As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind?

11:8
What, then, did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces.

11:9
What, then, did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

11:10
This is the one about whom it is written, 'See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.'

11:11
"Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist, yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
