Jefferson County Sheriff Deputies would like to remind you of the importance of wearing your seatbelt this summer. It is one of the simplest and most important ways to stay safe on the road. Whether you’re taking a short trip across town or heading out on a long vacation drive, a seatbelt helps protect you in case of a sudden stop or crash by reducing the risk of serious injury. Summer travel often means more traffic, longer road trips, and more distractions, making safety even more important. Buckling up every time you get in a vehicle isn’t just a good habit—it can save your life.

As you’re riding the waves 🌊 on your boat this summer. Jefferson County Sheriffs Office will like to remind you that Boating safety starts long before the boat leaves the dock. Every passenger should wear a properly fitted life jacket, and the boat operator should check weather conditions, fuel levels, and safety equipment before departure. Essential items include navigation lights, fire extinguishers, distress signals, a first aid kit, and a working communication device.
Safe boating also depends on responsible behavior on the water. Operators should follow speed limits, stay alert for other boats and swimmers, and avoid alcohol while boating. Sudden weather changes, strong currents, and underwater hazards can create dangerous situations quickly, especially for inexperienced boaters.
Education and preparation make a major difference in preventing accidents. Taking a boating safety course helps operators understand navigation rules, emergency procedures, and local regulations. Passengers should also know basic safety practices, such as how to respond if someone falls overboard or if the boat begins taking on water.
Whether boating on a lake, river, or open ocean, safety should always come first. Careful planning, proper equipment, and responsible operation help ensure that everyone enjoys a safe and enjoyable and memorable time on the water.
