🚨REMINDER🚨
On Friday, March 6, Hamshire-Fannett High School will host the Shattered Dreams program, an impactful educational initiative designed to promote responsible decision-making among students, particularly regarding underage drinking and impaired driving. This powerful experience highlights how a single poor choice can affect not only immediate safety, but also long-term goals, dreams, and the lives of others.
The event will begin with a presentation in the football stadium. Following the presentation, students will move to the practice field for a staged wreck scene that will include participation from some of our students. During this time, parents and community members may see emergency vehicles and hear sirens on campus. Please do not be alarmed, this is part of the planned demonstration. Shattered Dreams is open to high school students and staff only.
The program is carefully structured to help students understand the real-life consequences of impaired and distracted driving. Students will first take part in an informational presentation focused on the dangers and long-term impact of driving under the influence and other high-risk behaviors. The experience will then continue with a realistic, scripted demonstration led by local first responders, illustrating the legal, emotional, and physical consequences that can result from one unsafe decision. Through this immersive approach, students will see how impaired driving affects not just the driver, but also families, friends, and the entire community.
We are grateful for the strong partnership of the following community members who are helping make this meaningful learning opportunity possible:
• Hamshire Volunteer Fire Department
• Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office
• Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson
• Local emergency responders and support personnel
This program is educational in nature and entirely focused on prevention. No students will be physically harmed, and participation in the reenactment portion is voluntary and requires parental consent.
Our goal is both simple and important: to encourage safe, responsible decision-making and to help our students think critically about how the choices they make today can shape their futures tomorrow.
We are thankful for a community that continually works together to protect, educate, and support our Longhorns.
