Career Firefighter/Paramedic – Eligibility List Update
Beaver Dam Fire Department

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is seeking highly motivated, team-oriented individuals to update our Career Firefighter/Paramedic eligibility list. We are a combination fire department located in Dodge County, Wisconsin, proudly serving the City of Beaver Dam, the Township of Beaver Dam, and portions of Calamus, Lowell, Trenton, and Westford. Our first-due area covers 100 square miles and more than 24,000 residents. In 2025, we responded to 3,384 calls for service from our single fire station in downtown Beaver Dam.

The department is authorized for 27 career firefighters, 21 paid-on-call firefighters, and one administrative assistant. Members have the opportunity to serve on several specialty teams including the Dive Team, Technical Rescue Team, TEMS Team, and the Water Rescue Team that covers the 6,718-acre Beaver Dam Lake. Several members of the department also serve on Wisconsin Task Force 1, providing statewide response capability. Training and development are a top priority, with personnel training daily on the job, access to a new Class A training facility, and frequent opportunities for outside education. In the past year, members have trained at the National Fire Academy, the Fire Department Training Network, and FDIC.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department is also modernizing its fleet and facilities. In 2025 we took delivery of a Seagrave Marauder II 95’ Aerialscope, and an additional Seagrave Marauder II engine has been ordered for delivery in 2027. The department has also begun a facility assessment and is in the early planning stages of constructing two new fire stations.

Our hiring process is character-driven, meaning we focus on selecting individuals who share the vision and values of the organization and then provide the training necessary for skill development. In recent years, several candidates have been hired and sponsored through both paramedic and firefighter training programs.

To be considered for employment, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
*Firefighter I and Paramedic
*Firefighter I and EMT
*Paramedic

Candidates with two or more years of career firefighter experience may also be considered for a lateral entry position, which provides a salary and vacation package commensurate with experience.

The City of Beaver Dam offers a competitive compensation package that includes paid vacation, sick leave, compensatory time, health insurance, participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System, educational incentives, and a uniform allowance. Residency within 15 miles of the firehouse is required within 18 months of hire.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Ben! 🎉

Every Tuesday morning, Ben shows up at the firehouse ready to work, help out, and bring a great attitude—and over time, he’s become a truly beloved part of our team. We appreciate the dedication, the teamwork, and the positive energy he brings with him each week.

Now, yes… he does also work for the Beaver Dam Police Department 😏—but let’s be honest, we all know where his heart really is. (Don’t worry, Ben, we won’t tell them… unless the cake disappears.)

Have a great birthday, Ben! We’re glad to have you as part of the firehouse family. 🚒🎂🔥

🚨 Tornado Siren Information – Beaver Dam, WI 🚨

Following the severe weather events on April 13th, 2026 the Fire Department has received several questions regarding the City of Beaver Dam’s tornado sirens. All tornado sirens in the City of Beaver Dam were tested on March 30th, 2026 and found to be in working order.

Tornado Siren Locations in Beaver Dam:
Site #1: Near 1639 N. Spring Street (McDonald’s)
Site #2: Intersection of Grove Street and N. Center Street (Near Dairy Queen)
Site #3: Near intersection of Mary and W. Burnett Street (Lakeview Park)
Site #4: Intersection of Currie and Rosendale Street
Site #5: Intersection of Hillcrest Drive and Monroe Street
Site #6: Parking Lot of City Hall
Site #7: Crystal Lake Beach (Sled Hill)
Site #8: Intersection of Hemlock Road and US Hwy 151

⚠️ Important Notes:
All tornado sirens in Beaver Dam are activated by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department does not have the ability to activate these sirens.

Sirens in Dodge County are activated when the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for the area.

🌀 Sirens are designed to alert people outdoors. Please ensure you also have other reliable methods of receiving weather alerts, such as NOAA weather radios, smartphone alerts, and local news sources.

Hang with us, this may be a longer post, but we want to make sure everyone is set up to receive important emergency notifications.

First, we encourage you to sign up for Dodge County’s local alert system (RAVE). This is our primary way to send out local emergency notifications directly to you.

• These alerts are specific to Dodge County, but you do not need to be physically in the county to receive them. They will reach you wherever you are and can be delivered by text, email, and/or phone call.
• If you use Spectrum for your mobile service, select Verizon as your carrier when registering.
• Once your profile is set up, send a test message to your phone number and email to confirm everything is working.
• Be sure to opt into both emergency alerts and weather alerts in your profile so you receive all relevant notifications.

Sign up here: https://www.getrave.com/login/dodgeco

Next, make sure your Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are turned on.

These are the “AMBER Alert-type” messages that automatically come through your phone for major emergencies. They are separate from RAVE and are managed at the national level. Check your phone settings and use the photo below as a guide based on your device.

Lastly, have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
No single system is perfect, and redundancy matters.

• RAVE can send weather notifications if you enable them in your profile.
• Weather radios are inexpensive, reliable, and work even if cell service is limited.
• Allow notifications from trusted local weather sources on your phone.

With the potential for severe weather again today, this is a good time to make sure you are set up. We rely on these alert systems to communicate quickly with the community when conditions change. Outdoor warning sirens are an important tool, but they are not designed to be heard indoors and may be difficult to hear during storms. Having alerts enabled on your phone ensures you receive warnings wherever you are.

If you have any questions or need assistance signing up, please reach out to our office. We are happy to help.

Water Rescue

Beaver Dam, WI – At approximately 11:40am on April 11th the Beaver Dam Fire Department was dispatched to Beaver Dam Lake in the City of Beaver Dam for the report of a person in the water. Dispatch indicated that a kayak had capsized near Cuba Island and that a single victim was on top of the capsized boat.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department responded immediately. Firefighters were able to locate the victim from the shore of Beaver Dam Lake. Simultaneously, the department launched its boat from Tahoe Park. Firefighters reported that the victim was no longer on the boat and was floating in the water. The victim had a personnel flotation device on the kayak, but was not wearing it at the time of the incident.

Within minutes of launching the boat crews were able to locate the victim and pull them from the water. The victim was transported to the boat landing where Paramedics were waiting to provide medical care. The victim declined medical care and was not transported.

The Beaver Dam Fire Department reminds residents to wear an approved flotation device when on or near the water.
