The annual siren test is tomorrow, September 8th at 11am. The emergency sirens within the 10-mile radius of the Beaver Valley Power Station will be activated. These outdoor warning sirens will sound for a steady 3 minutes.

The Beaver Borough Council meeting will be held this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Pool House Community Center. I am sharing the complete Council packet below so residents can review the matters before Council.

Please remember that the August meeting minutes included in the packet remain a draft until Council votes to approve them.

Those minutes document Council’s 8–1 vote against mediation concerning the ongoing disagreement over the respective authority of the Mayor, Council, and Police Chief. I supported mediation because it offered a constructive and potentially less expensive way to resolve these issues without involving the courts.

I have made repeated efforts to resolve these disagreements cooperatively. With mediation rejected and the underlying legal issues still unresolved, I am retaining independent counsel to evaluate the formal remedies available to protect the statutory authority of the Mayor’s Office. My goal remains to resolve these matters responsibly while limiting unnecessary expense to Beaver’s taxpayers.

Also on Tuesday’s agenda is a motion concerning Beaver’s three-ward system. The motion would authorize the Borough Solicitor to prepare an ordinance abolishing the wards, reducing Council from nine members to seven, and electing every Council member at large throughout the Borough.

This is not the final vote to abolish the wards. However, it is the first formal step toward a significant change in how Beaver residents are represented.

The Beaver Borough Police Department has been actively working throughout the community since last night’s severe storm, responding to downed trees and wires, blocked roadways, and other hazardous conditions.

Duquesne Light reports that winds exceeding 70 mph cause significant damage throughout Beaver and Allegheny counties, and restoration efforts remain underway.

‼️ Another round of severe weather is possible this afternoon and evening, including damaging winds and localized flooding. Please remain alert and use caution.

As cleanup continues, always assume downed or low hanging powerlines are energized. Never attempt to move a tree or branch that is touching or near a powerline, and please give utility an emergency cruise plenty of room to work.

Storm Cleanup & Safety Update

Last night’s severe storm brought down trees, branches, and power lines throughout our area. Duquesne Light is actively working in Beaver Borough, while our Road Department, Police Department, and Fire Department continue working to secure hazardous areas and assist with cleanup efforts.

Please use extra caution while traveling or walking throughout the Borough today. Downed or low-hanging wires and damaged or loose tree branches may still be present. Always assume a downed wire is live and keep a safe distance.

To report a hazardous condition, please call the non-emergency line at 724-775-0880. For an immediate emergency, call 911.

A sincere thank you to our Road Department, Police Department, and Fire Department for their hard work since last night and their continued commitment to our community. We also thank our residents for their patience as cleanup and restoration efforts continue.

Please stay safe, look out for your neighbors, and give crews plenty of room to work.

Beaver Borough has sustained significant storm damage, including numerous fallen trees, blocked streets and downed utility lines. Police, firefighters, public works personnel and utility crews are actively responding.

Please treat every downed wire—and every tree, fence, vehicle or puddle touching a wire—as energized. Stay at least 30 feet away. Do not attempt to move a wire or cut a tree that is touching utility equipment.

Call 911 for an immediate threat to life, fire, injury or a dangerous wire creating an active emergency. Downed or low wires, broken poles and other electrical hazards may also be reported to Duquesne Light at 888-393-7000. Power outages can be reported through Duquesne Light’s website or mobile app.

Please avoid unnecessary travel and do not drive around barricades. Keeping damaged areas clear allows emergency personnel and utility crews to work safely.

If you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbor, please check on them when it is safe to do so. Anyone who depends upon electrically powered medical equipment should activate their emergency plan and call 911 if they face an immediate medical danger.

Residents using portable generators must operate them outdoors, well away from doors, windows and garages. Never run a generator inside a house, basement or attached garage.

We will provide confirmed road closures, available assistance and restoration information as it becomes available. Please rely on official Beaver Borough, Beaver Police, Beaver County Emergency Services and Duquesne Light for communications.
