At 9:23 this morning units from Beaver Vol Fire Department were dispatched to a two vehicle MVA on airport Road near Scott Ridge. White Jeep versus trash truck. This was a head on style collision with heavy entrapment. The driver of the white Jeep was successfully extricated from the vehicle and evaluated by Jan-Care. Evergreen Environmental responded for hazardous materials cleanup. The roadway was opened up a 10:40. Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling on airport road as hydraulic fluid and trash juice did soak into the roadway, making things slippery.

Today, our community mourns the loss of a true public servant and friend, Jimmy Shannon, President of the Beaver Volunteer Fire Department.
Jimmy dedicated over 50 years of service to our community, a legacy defined by selflessness, leadership, and unwavering commitment. A proud Army veteran who served his country in Vietnam, he carried that same sense of duty into his work at the fire department—where he spent decades protecting and supporting others.
Even while facing a long illness, Jimmy remained active and involved with the department he loved so deeply, continuing to serve right up until the end of his life. His dedication was truly unmatched.
We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Jimmy Shannon was more than a leader—he was a mentor, a brother, and a true pillar of our community. His impact will never be forgotten.
Rest easy, Jimmy. We’ll take it from here.

We will never forget his sacrifice.

16 years ago today, the members of the Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department responded to a swift water rescue call in Beaver, WV. During that response, one of our own, Firefighter Donnie Adkins, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Today we remember Donnie’s bravery, dedication, and service to the community. Please keep the Adkins family, his friends, and the members of Glasgow VFD in your thoughts as we reflect on this difficult day. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

On 3/12/2026 EMT’s and Firefighters from Beaver VFD responded to a CPR in Progress call on Sullivan Road in Glen Morgan.

Upon arrival the patient was found to be unresponsive and in need on immediate medical care. We took over CPR from a family member and quickly deployed the LUCAS 3 to begin mechanical CPR.

We then utilized our Zoll X Series to assess cardiac activity and deliver early defibrillation to the patient. Cardiac activity and breathing was restored at this point.

Transport units from Jan-Care EMS arrived and transported the patient to a medical facility to receive further treatment.

We would like to thank the voters for their support of the Raleigh County Fire Levy which in conjunction with the Beckley Area Foundation provided the needed funding for the purchase of the LUCAS 3 device and provides funds for the maintenance and supplies to operate both the LUCAS 3 and the Zoll X Series. This equipment has truly made a difference in the level of patient care we can provide in our communities prior to the arrival of EMS Transport units.
