Concessions are available. We will be serving BBQ Chicken Sandwiches for dinner and as always hotdogs will be available.

THANK YOU again for the great support of the bingo fundraiser; we interviewed many and were able to send four young men and women from PHHS to Boys & Girls State. And with your help we also sent one young lady from PHHS to the Youth Cadet Law Enforcement Program as well.

It's that time of the year again, when Post 90 selects High School Juniors "Rising Seniors" to attend American Legion Boys State & American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. The Post has been busy preparing for and raising money to sponsor students to attend the 2026 sessions.

Do you know a high school junior who would benefit from this program? It is open to public, private and homeschool students.

Boys and Girls State are among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government. Participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.

Hanover County has a new opportunity for students; the Hanover County Patrick Henry Oratorical Contest. The Hanover County American Legion and the Hanover County VA250 Committee, along with other sponsors, are holding a county-wide oratorical contest on Saturday, March 28 at 9 a.m. The contest will be held at the historic Hanover Courthouse in honor of the 251st anniversary of Patrick Henry’s famous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech.

The contest is open to all Hanover students (public, private or homeschool) and consists of 3 categories of students; Elementary, Middle School and High School. Students will recite from memory a passage from the speech starting as follows:

High School Students - “They tell us, sir,..."
Middle School Students - “The battle, sir,...”
Elementary School Students - “It is in vain, sir,..."

Dressing as Patrick Henry is encouraged.

All participants will receive a distinctive contest certificate. Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each category will be awarded. First place winners will receive $500, $300, and $100 respectively.

All participants must register online. Deadline to register is 20 March 2026.
