It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charter and Life Member Wayne Rapp. Wayne was an amazing leader, mentor, member and friend. Wayne joined Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad in 1976 where he helped form a small substation in the Beaverdam/Montpelier area of Hanover County (1978-1987). The small substation became West Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad (1987). Wayne touched many lives through the EMS community across the state. Please keep the Rapp Family in your thoughts and prayers!

We regret to announce the passing of William "Bill" Putt, Life Member of West Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad. Bill was truly one of a kind. Bill served in the Navy, specifically on the Nautilus. His preferred method of travel was his sport bikes (motorcycles). He participated in triathlons on a regular basis into his 70's. Bill always had a little sarcasm and a half grin that always kept us wondering what he was up to.

Bill joined WHVRS in June 1997. He became a staple on our day crews. Bill had a true love for all things that drove fast including our ambulances. Bill served as our Motor Officer from 2010 - 2018. Bill retired from WHVRS in 2018 after 21 years of service.

Bill's family is having him cremated and a service will be held in the spring. Please keep Bill's family in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE: Brightspeed notified the County at 12:27 p.m. that the current outage has been resolved.

We’re aware of the Brightspeed/CenturyLink broadband outages affecting parts of western Hanover and have been working hard over the past few days to get answers.

Brightspeed is not a contractor with the County. We've reached out to them repeatedly, but have received very little information. We’ve also called the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development for help.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a timeframe for repairs, but we’re pushing hard to get one. We understand how frustrating this is for those affected — and we share that frustration.

You can contact Brightspeed directly at 833-692-7773 or email Christopher Dillon at [email protected].

You can also email our broadband team at [email protected].

We’ll post updates here as soon as we have them.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Jacob’s family and friends!

The TEVFD is sad to announce the untimely passing of one of our own. Logan Bozeman, better known as Jacob, was involved in a motor vehicle accident this morning while working for (American Medical Response) AMR. Jacob was a recent addition to our department and was about to enter the Firefighter training starting next Month. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and coworkers as they navigate through this difficult time. Please be respectful of the family and please limit the sharing of other social media posts regarding the accident. Thank you for the many calls and texts to our members this morning as Jacob was based out of the VCU-Tappahannock location and was a member of this community.

This afternoon, the City of Richmond informed us of an unexpected power outage at its water treatment facility. As a precaution, Hanover County has temporarily switched to an alternate water supply.

Rest assured — our water is safe to drink and use. However, we’re asking residents to help us conserve water while we’re operating on a limited supply.

Here are a few easy ways to reduce water usage:
💧 Take shorter showers.
💧 Avoid unnecessary toilet flushes.
💧 Hold off on washing clothes if you can.
💧 Postpone washing dishes if possible.

Some residents may experience lower than normal water pressure as part of the County's conservation efforts.
