Opal Foundation We work to enhance quality of life, attract visitors, businesses, and improve access to recreational opal-foundation.org

Our mission is to support recreational entities such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state and county parks, and private recreation sites, to ensure that our beloved parks and campgrounds stay open during budget shortfalls and are able to make necessary improvements. We seek to provide access to America’s most beautiful areas for the continued enjoyment of campers, hikers, boaters, anglers, and those who simply love being in nature.

‼️WEEDS AROUND DOCKS‼️

As we continue to get busier this season we want to make sure everyone is being as safe as possible when approaching the docks.

While we are working on a solution, the weeds around the docks has increased significantly in the last several years and we ask boaters to be cautious when approaching as we have already had to pull several people out after going though it.

DOCK ONE:
There are large amounts of weeds on the INSIDE of the dock. The outside is mostly clear but approach slow and lift your motor if necessary to access this dock.

DOCK TWO:
When approaching the second dock you want to stay close to the park shoreline. There is a narrow channel that runs past the middle point directly to the dock. If you go past the middle point and try and turn in YOU HAVE GONE TO FAR and will turn into the weeds.

We have recently had a few campers say that they had a hard time finding information on Philippi Park. For these campers in particular, they hadn't been up to the park in over 10 years (before Opal was a part of the picture). They reached out to the Army Corps and searched on the website, but there was still minimal information. We have put together this simple PDF that hopefully gives campers what they need to find Philippi and enjoy the beautiful campground in the future.

If you come across something that you would like to see implemented at Philippi or information that seems necessary PLEASE REACH OUT and let us know! While we can't promise on making every change, we will always consider the suggestions of our campers.
