Firefighter Josh Madsen!

With 2 years of service, Josh was inspired to become a firefighter by his grandpa—continuing a meaningful legacy of service.

His favorite part of serving is simple: helping others.

When it comes to training and calls, Josh enjoys anything hands-on, where he can stay active and keep building his skills.

What keeps him coming back to volunteer? You guessed it—helping others. It’s what drives his commitment to the department.

Outside of the department, Josh works as a Highway Maintenance Operator for Sherburne County. In his free time, he enjoys heading to the cabin.

Assistant Chief Thomas (Tom) Wark!

With 18 years of service, Tom was inspired to become a firefighter by his father, who served as a volunteer firefighter, along with his own experience enjoying shipboard firefighting in the Navy.

His favorite part of serving with the department is working alongside a truly committed group of professionals.

When it comes to training, Tom’s top pick is live burn training—helping build critical skills for when the real thing happens.

What keeps him coming back? The people. Tom values the great group of men and women who make it enjoyable to train, respond to calls, and serve together.

Outside the department, Tom works as an Operations Manager at Sherco. In his free time, he enjoys video gaming and serving at church.

Meet Fire Chief Doug Kolbinger!
With an incredible 34 years of service, Doug’s dedication to the department runs deep. Inspired by his father and grandfather—both members of the department—he proudly continues a family tradition of service and commitment.

When asked about his favorite part of serving, Doug doesn’t hesitate: it’s the people. From the strong bond among firefighters to the connection with the community, those relationships mean everything to him.

What keeps him coming back year after year? Simply put—helping others.

Outside of the department, Doug works as a Maintenance Planner for LPI and enjoys spending his free time woodworking, hunting, and fishing.

His favorite thing about this community? “I grew up here, and it still has that small-town feel.”

🚒 MEET YOUR FIREFIGHTERS 🚒

Meet Firefighter Kent Graning

Kent has been serving our community for 18 years. He was inspired to join the fire department following in the footsteps of his two uncles, who both retired from Becker Fire.

His favorite part of serving is the opportunity to meet new people, build friendships, and help others in the community. Kent especially enjoys pump operations training and the hands-on work that comes with it.

What keeps him coming back? Knowing this is his way to give back and serve the community he calls home.

Outside of the department, Kent works as a service writer for Wruck Excavating. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and hunting. His favorite food is BBQ ribs, and he enjoys watching shows like S.W.A.T. and FBI.

Kent appreciates that this is a small, generous town where people look out for one another.

His message to residents: "Please give emergency crews space at scene calls and avoid recording or sharing incidents online. Respecting privacy during emergencies matters for the families involved."
