WV Southern Regional Highway Safety Program

WV Southern Regional Highway Safety Program The SRHSP supports local law enforcement agencies by providing supplemental funding to make our roads safer.

The Southern Regional Highway Safety Program serves nine counties: Braxton, Boone, Fayette, Greenbrier, Logan, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Raleigh, and Wester. The purpose of the program is to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and fatalities on our roadways by providing supplemental funding to area law enforcement agencies and creating innovative programs designed to educate and inform the public.

In addition to enforcement efforts that concentrate on arresting impaired drivers and enforcing the seat belt law, the SRHSP is also active in community efforts to educate the public on child safety seat use. Highway safety resources target safety seat classes, clinics, informational booths, and safety checks for parents who need guidance on the laws and installation of child safety seats.

We've got TWO big campaigns starting today: Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Target Red.

Target Red focuses on drivers who run red lights and stop signs. Many of our fatal crashes and serious injuries involve intersections.

I think we all know what the Distracted Driving campaign focuses on, but let's elaborate:

A distraction is ANYTHING that takes your focus off of driving. It could be:

Food
Drinks
Radio or Playlists
Passengers
Other Vehicles
Putting on Makeup
Reading a Newspaper
YOUR PHONE

Stay tuned ALL MONTH for a media campaign including our Local Heroes who discuss why distracted driving enforcement is so important.

I'll leave you with this sneak peek.
