MEETING INFORMATION BELOW:
It is time to renew the Raleigh County DemocraticParty. Since nobody ran for the positions in the May election, allpositions are open for appointment by the state chair. The requirementsfor membership and the duties involved are below:
(a) Membership: The County Executive Committee shall be composed of two personsof different genders from each magisterial or executive committee district ofthe county; except that in counties having three executive committee districtsthere shall be elected four members, equally divided by gender as members ofthe party's executive committee from each magisterial or executive committeedistrict. The members of such a committee shall be elected in accordance withthe provisions of the West Virginia Code, Chapter 3, Article 1, Section 9. Allsuch members shall reside in the district from which they are chosen. Inaddition to the elected positions, the committee shall be comprised of thePresident of each Federation of Democratic Women’s and Young Democrats Clubswithin a county as ex-officio members, with the right to vote on all issues notcovered by state code.
(b) Duties: The County Committee shall be governed by the procedures set forthin Article Five, unless otherwise noted in this Section, and the members andofficers shall have such powers and duties within the county as the StateExecutive Committee has within the state. Subject to the provisions of WestVirginia Code, Chapter 3, Article 5, Section 19, the County Committee has thefurther duty to fill vacancies existing on the Democratic ballot in the countyby a majority vote of the membership and shall certify the same to theSecretary of State. If in the election of a Chair or any other officer of theCounty Executive Committee there is a tie vote and it cannot be settled by themembers of the Committee themselves within forty (40) days from the date fixedfor their first meeting, then in that event the deciding vote shall be cast bythe Chair of the State Executive Committee, or by someone appointed by them forthat specific purpose. Such a deciding vote may be cast in writing to aconfirmed email address or mailed to a confirmed USPS address to all membersand contested candidates and shall be final.
For Raleigh County, there are 12 members divided into thefollowing districts:
Magistrate District 1: Two male and two female
Magistrate District 2: Two male and two female
Magistrate District 3: Two male and two female
We will hold an informational meeting on June 25, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the current status of the county party andidentify candidates to fill these positions. Individuals interested inserving should attend this meeting; a remote option will be available. Alternatively, anyone interested in serving can send an email to

and self-identify that you wish to serve and what district you represent. All submissions must be received by June 25, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. The current committee will compile a list with the names of individuals wishing to serve, validate candidacy, and submit it to the state chair; all names will be submitted. The state chair will appoint committee members based on that list or may appoint others at their discretion in accordance with the state party bylaws. Once the state chair has appointed members to the county party, the selected individuals will meet to elect officers for the county party. The list of officers below will be elected:
(b) Offices: County Committees shall elect the following officers: Chair,Secretary and Treasurer. In the event that the Chair is not present, theSecretary shall serve as Chair Pro Tem, or as interim chair if the office ofChair is vacant. Additionally, County Committees may choose to elect aParliamentarian. All offices shall be equally divided related to gender. Thebylaws in this paragraph shall go into effect at the start of the new term in2026.
