Beckley Sanitary Board

Beckley Sanitary Board The Beckley Sanitary Board provides sanitary sewer collection and wastewater treatment for the great Today more than ever, water is our passion.

For over 80 years, Beckley Sanitary Board has been providing sanitary sewer collection and wastewater treatment to the greater Beckley area. Our wastewater service area includes the City of Beckley, Town of Mabscott, and outlying communities of Cherry Hill, Sprague, Raleigh, and the Airport Industrial Park including the Beckley Federal Correctional Institute. BSB operates one of Southern West Virg

inia’s largest sanitary wastewater plants providing sanitary sewer to over 7,600 customers. More recently, BSB’s stormwater utility has been providing stormwater management services in the Beckley urban watershed. Federal and State mandates require that discharges from municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) are regulated. Our stormwater program’s goal is to reduce the amount of pollution our community contributes to local waterways. In addition, more proactive management of stormwater infrastructure through routine maintenance and ongoing capital improvement projects help better the performance of storm sewers, in turn protecting resident’s property, health and quality of life. The stormwater utility service area is consistent with the MS4 permit boundary as designated by WV Department of Enviromental Protection. The service area includes approximately 10,000 customers within the City of Beckley, Cranberry, Prosperity, Sprague, Raleigh and Dry Hill Road communities. BSB is a leading water pollution control utility in West Virginia. Our long term goal is to improve the health of Cranberry, Whitestick, Little Whitestick, and Piney Creeks. We’d like it to be yours, too.

Earth Day Clean Up Recap 🌎

A huge thank you to everyone who supported and to the volunteers who came out for yesterday’s Earth Day litter clean up!

In just a short section along the banks of Cranberry Creek, the crew collected 13 bags of litter. Removing this waste not only improves the appearance of our waterway, but also helps protect our environment in the long term.

We appreciate everyone who supported and made a difference!

F.O.G. (Fats, Oils, & Grease) can cause sewer backups and even overflows if poured down the drain. When cooking with butter, oil, dressings, or gravy, remember—don’t pour it down the drain!

Instead, wipe excess grease from pans and dishes into the trash, or pour it into a container, allow it to cool, and throw it away later. Simple steps like this go a long way!

Today, BSB partnered with Beckley Outdoors to clean out a couple of the Trash Trouts (litter-catching devices that float in the creek) and removed over 40 pounds of trash!

Small actions like disposing of trash properly and safely picking up litter when you see it help prevent pollution from entering the stormwater system and local waterways.

A huge thank you to Beckley Outdoors for your help! 💧🌎

Beckley Sanitary Board is advising residents and visitors of utility work underway near 322 Ewart Ave. A contractor is working to replace critical sanitary sewer and storm sewer in the area. The primary work area is the parking lot of the old Beckley Tennis Courts on Ewart Ave. At this time there are no interruptions to traffic on Ewart Ave, but please use caution when driving through this area, as large trucks may be entering the roadway from the work area.

The Beckley Sanitary Board and the City of Beckley appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as this infrastructure improvement project is completed. Efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience and finish the work as efficiently and safely as possible.
