The full time Bedford Police Department consists of 40 sworn police officers and 14 full and part-time civilians. The department operates around the clock, seven days a week and provides the latest in professional police protection. It is led by a Police Chief and three Lieutenants who serve as commanders of the patrol, administration and staff services divisions. The department includes a Detecti

ve Bureau with a full time Detective/Youth Officer who is responsible for juvenile and youth related matters including the DARE program and Police Explorer Program. He works closely with schools and is liaison to the local drug abuse prevention council. A "School Resource Officer" is assigned to work with the various schools in the Town as well. Also under the aegis of the Police Department, is the civilian Dog Control Officer who responds to calls regarding lost or misbehaving animals. Phone: (914) 666-4855. Civilian Parking Enforcement Officers patrol the Town's eight business and commuter parking lots to insure compliance with the permit system as well as the hamlet areas to enforce parking restrictions. School Crossing Guards, also civilian employees, are assigned near the Town's schools where needed. In case of any emergency, residents should dial 911. The department is the primary answering point for all 911 calls in the Town. Police, fire and emergency medical services are dispatched through the 911 system.

The Bedford Police Department is aware of an incident involving an interaction between an adult and child on 08-30-2026. The parent of the child was present during the interaction, and was able to identify the adult, who was known to the parent. After follow-up investigation, the conduct does not rise to the level of criminality, and does not appear to be any immediate danger to the public.

We are also aware of a homemade flyer circulating that describes the
incident, but other details may not be completely accurate, and the flyer has no
affiliation to the Bedford Police Department. We remind everyone to immediately report any concerning behaviors to your local police so that they can respond promptly and appropriately.

The Bedford Police Department remains vigilant to protect public safety, and the safety of our children is paramount.

What an amazing National Night Out! 🎉

Tuesday night, the Bedford Police Department was thrilled to welcome so many members of our community for an evening packed with fun, family, and community spirit!

From meeting your local officers and catching up with neighbors to enjoying delicious food, great music, and activities for all ages, there was something for everyone. Seeing so many smiling faces made the night truly special!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out and to all of our town departments and community partners who helped make this event such a tremendous success. Your support is what makes events like this possible.

We hope everyone had fun, and we can't wait to see you again next year for another unforgettable National Night Out!

Some members of the Bedford Police Department stopped by all of the Town's summer camps this week to spend time with our youngest residents. What better way to wrap up the final week of camp than with an Ice Pop with a Cop? 🍧👮

No speeding tickets were issued… although a few ice pops disappeared at record speed! 😄

We hope everyone had an amazing summer, and we wish all of our campers a fun, safe, and successful school year ahead!

Come join us on August 4th for National Night Out at the Bedford Hills Elementary School! National Night Out is an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make communities safer, and more caring places to live. We will have games, giveaways, some of our specialized equipment and vehicles, car seat checks, and so much more. Come join us for a great evening of fun and partnership.

Today at the Katonah Sidewalk Sale, friends and neighbors, as well as Olive, the parrot and Brooklyn, the lab, stopped by to cool off with Sgt. Ahmad Warren and Sgt. Nancy Valdovinos. They were also spreading the word about our upcoming events: National Night Out on August 4th from 5:00-9:00 pm at Bedford Hills Elementary School and the PBA Comedy Night on September 19th from 7:00-9:00 pm at Fox Lane HS. Mark your calendars for what promises to be fun nights!

We’re wishing all a happy 4th of July! Here are just a few reminders for fireworks safety tips and rules:

🎆 As always, leave it to the pros! Attend a local professional firework display and there are plenty in Westchester.

🎇 Have water handy in case fire needs to be extinguished

🎆 Never try to relight a dud - soak it in water and dispose of it

🎇 Commons causes of fireworks related injuries:

* a fast- fuse firecracker explodes before being thrown

* a misguided rocket strikes a bystander

* one investigates why a firecracker failed but unexpectedly does while looking at it

⭐️Make sure the little ones wear protective headphones

⭐️ leave your pets at home

🎆 What’s legal?

- Sparking devices *sparklers* (ground based and do not launch into the air).

🎇 What’s not legal?

- Fireworks and dangerous fireworks including firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, spinners and aerial devices.
