The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office recently made contact with five juveniles and one 18-year-old male after reports of ding ding ditching in Lenox. What started as a harmless prank turned into something more when it was discovered that one of the juveniles had been reported missing and also had an active arrest warrant.

All individuals were handled appropriately, and the missing juvenile is no longer missing.

What might seem like a harmless prank—ringing someone’s doorbell, knocking loudly or kicking their door and running away—can actually cause real problems.

For homeowners, especially:

• It can trigger fear or anxiety, especially at night
• It may wake up children or elderly residents
• It can be mistaken for a real emergency or intrusion
• Repeated incidents can lead to police being called unnecessarily

What feels like “just a joke” to one person can feel stressful or even unsafe to another.

Let’s keep things respectful and considerate in our neighborhoods.

There are plenty of fun ways to joke around that don’t involve making others feel uneasy in their own homes.

Stay safe. Be kind. Think before you prank.

*Due to the ages of those involved, no additional details will be released.
