It is with profound sadness that Maple Heights Firefighters Local 1184 acknowledges the untimely passing of Maple Heights Police Officer Matthew William Thomas.
Officer Thomas dedicated his life to serving and protecting the citizens of Maple Heights with honor, courage, and compassion. As a respected police officer and Field Training Officer, he earned the admiration of his fellow officers, first responders, and the community through his professionalism, leadership, and unwavering commitment to others.
The bond between police officers and firefighters is built on shared service, sacrifice, and a commitment to protecting our community. Matthew embodied those values every day. His loss is deeply felt throughout the public safety family, and his legacy of dedication and selfless service will never be forgotten.
On behalf of the members of Maple Heights Firefighters Local 1184, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Matthew's wife, family, friends, and our brothers and sisters of the Maple Heights Police Department during this incredibly difficult time.

The nice weather is upon us, and so are the annual events on the Bedford Commons. Things kick off this weekend, June 12th-14th, with the Bedford Historical Society Strawberry Festival, and will continue with the City of Bedford’s Liberty Days, July 10th-12th, and the Bedford Rotary Rib Festival, July 17th-19th. We hope these events are a great time for all, so unruly behavior of any sort will not be tolerated and violations will be strictly enforced. Additionally, before heading down to the Square, we would like to remind everyone that all minor children attending these events must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Any unaccompanied minors will be directed to leave. This policy was put in place last year, and it will remain in effect this year. 🚔😎🍓🇺🇸☀️

Today on Peace Officers Memorial Day we pause to honor and remember the brave men & women who made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities safe. We also stand in appreciation for those that continue to serve.💙🖤

Officers and Firefighters participated in a mock traffic accident for Bedford High School Juniors and Seniors this morning as part of the Criminal Justice Career Technical Education (CTE) program. As prom approaches this exercise is conducted to show students the dangers of drunk or distracted driving as part of the Prom Promise. Officers stayed after to take pictures and talk with the students more about prom safety. We hope today’s exercise provided students with a valuable real-world learning experience that will influence responsible decision making in their future.
We would like to thank Interstate Towing for setting up and donating the vehicles for the event along with Metro Life Flight for making a landing. Thank you Bedford and Bedford Heights Fire Departments for assisting! 🚔🚒🚨🚁
