Stormwater Retention Pond

Did you know that the pond at Generations Park is actually a stormwater retention pond?

Stormwater can pick up debris, chemicals, dirt, and other pollutants and flow into a storm sewer system or directly into a pond (such as the pond at the Generations Park), stream, river, wetland, or lake. Stormwater enters the drainage system, including local streams and creeks, untreated.

Learn more about how your household waste ends up in the retention pond in this video: https://youtu.be/xEEg5CBKQaM

Water Is Awesome: Keep Texas Water on Tap

Hot summer months mean higher water use in North Texas. One way to help keep Texas water flowing through every tap is to be conscious of our sprinklers. Save some H2O by watering your lawn only when needed, running shorter cycles to prevent run-off, and checking the system for leaks at least once a month. #WaterIsAwesome #SaveTarrantWater

Recent rainfall has been scattered and the weekly watering advice map shows the areas where the sprinklers can rest or where they are needed. Use a rain gauge to help measure the rain your lawn receives naturally and add or subtract start times as necessary. There is a chance of storms through Tuesday. The week will warm up with 100 degree temperatures this weekend.

Pet waste that is not disposed of properly can put your health, your dog's health, and your child's health at risk.
Parvovirus is a serious, highly contagious disease that affects dogs of any age, breed, or sex. It is highly contagious to unvaccinated puppies. A dog may be a carrier of the disease without even showing signs of being infected. It affects the intestinal lining, causing diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, depression, and even death. It is transmitted by contact with infected dog waste either directly or indirectly through soiled shoes, car tires, and anything else that it touches. The virus can remain infectious on the ground for six months or even longer!
Dog waste can also affect people. Some of the diseases or parasites that can be transmitted to people from dog waste include campylobacteriosis, cryptosporidium, and toxocariasis. Children playing in the yard and adults gardening can be exposed to these diseases or parasites.
That’s why it is important to not leave dog waste on the ground. Help keep pets and people safe and healthy by picking up after your dog.
