Taxpayers for Quality Education Committed to educational quality, fiscal responsibility and public accountability

Taxpayers for Quality Education (TQE) is a group of Bedford taxpayers committed to ensuring educational quality, fiscal responsibility, and public accountability. We are a pro-education, nonpartisan, organization that’s been in existence (with a few breaks!) since 1993. Our greatest priority TODAY is ensuring that our school budget is protected from the deep cuts proposed by many, and ensuring tha

t our teachers know we appreciate their dedication and receive the compensation they deserve. We support competitive salaries for teachers and staff, and are deeply concerned that we currently compensate below many of our peer districts.

Glad you received it and always happy to support engaged community members like Bill Granfield for Bedford Town Council!

When you go to vote today (7 AM-7 PM at Bedford HS), Vote YES on 3. Here are some simple reasons:
✅ Every other medical provider in town, regardless of for-profit status, has paid their taxes.
✅ D-H paid their taxes on their Bedford property until 2020, when they applied for non-profit status and sued the town when it was denied.
✅ D-H will proceed with the Kilton Rd. project regardless of whether Amendment 3 passes.
✅ A YES vote means Bedford will continue to collect taxes on this valuable land in our town's tax engine.

Even Dartmouth-Hitchcock acknowledges that if Amendment 3 passes they will be paying taxes - and that’s all this is about.

Craig Beck, chief operating officer of Dartmouth-Hitchcock’s Southern Region/Community Group Practice said that should the amendment carry, “We will seek a waiver from the Planning Board and pay our fair share of taxes. We’re not pulling our application for this project.”
(NH Business Review, February 28, 2022)

That’s why we MUST pass Amendment 3. Voting YES is the the only way we can ensure Bedford gets the tax revenue for our town and schools - and keeps the burden off of you, our fellow property owners.

Just in case you happen to receive a mailer from Dartmouth-Hitchcock today... if you're keeping score, this is the fourth one they have sent out.
✅ If Amendment 3 passes, you will still have access to healthcare. D-H will just apply for a waiver from the Planning Board - meaning the Town of Bedford will still receive our tax revenue.
✅ Amendment 3 is, most certainly, about taxes. If the door opens for healthcare providers to avoid town property taxes, Bedford becomes fertile ground for others to do the same and fleece our town.
✅ Amendment 3 protects our town and allows the Planning Board to grant waivers on a case by case basis.
✅ Amendment 3 was brought forth by over 100 Bedford residents and is supported by nearly 50 Bedford doctors.

DID YOU KNOW: Amendment 3 was brought forward by over 100 Bedford residents, the most for any zoning amendment in the Town’s history.

Nearly 50 doctors — Bedford residents — signed on
as supporters of Amendment 3.

Amendment 3 will protect Bedford’s tax base in the Performance Zone, the area of Town set aside for maximum economic development and tax revenues over three decades ago.

THINK ABOUT THIS: If Dartmouth-Hitchcock is “more than willing to pay its fair share (of taxes)" why are they suing the Town of Bedford
to avoid paying taxes?

Protect our town’s tax base and the salaries of our town employees.

Bedford's not alone. The concept of suing a town to avoid paying property taxes is not new to Dartmouth-Hitchcock. They have now sued Nashua (twice), Newport, Lebanon, and Bedford. This tactic is designed to increase their profitability, lessen your quality of life, and increase your taxes. Vote YES on 3 on Tuesday, March 8.

Here's the truth.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock has sent out many mailers attempting to scare Bedford residents into thinking that if Amendment 3 passes, it will limit your medical choice.

That’s simply not true.

D-H executive Craig Beck acknowledges that if Amendment 3 passes, “we will seek a waiver from the Planning Board and pay our fair share of taxes. We’re not pulling our application for this project.”

A YES vote on Amendment 3 will ensure that Bedford gets our fair share of taxes - and our quality of life remains strong.

VOTE YES ON 3! D-H skipped a few steps in the process - and moved right ahead to suing the Town of Bedford to avoid paying their taxes. Ensure that they abide by the same guidelines as every other medical provider in town . Vote YES on 3 on Tuesday, March 8.

Like many of you, we received the very slanted mailer from Dartmouth-Hitchcock yesterday. We found that there were a number of inaccuracies in the mailer, so we have addressed those on our site. The most egregious one is the notion that D-H "as a good corporate citizen has always paid its taxes."

There's one problem: Dartmouth-Hitchcock is suing the town of Bedford to use their nonprofit status to avoid paying taxes.

Please share, and encourage others to vote YES on 3.
