🌐 TechSafeTuesday: Tips to make student's online presence safer
We all know the excitement when a student gets their first phone, but often, the rush to connect leads to a critical overlooked step: setting profiles to public by default.
This can be especially tricky for middle schoolers, who might not fully understand the implications of having a global audience for their posts. Public profiles allow anyone, from strangers to marketing algorithms, to see their content.
🚨 Why Public is a Problem for Students
• ⚠️ Increased Risk of Contact: A public profile means an open invitation for unwanted messages and interactions from people you don't know in-person.
• 👁️ Over-Exposure: When a student’s posts are visible to the world, they have less control over how that information might be used or perceived.
• 📈 Digital Footprint Issues: Post histories on a public profile become a very public, permanent digital footprint at a young age.
💡 Parent’s guide to private digital presence
Our goal is to ensure your student’s digital life is shared with the people they actually know: friends, family, and trusted peers. Making this one simple change can make a huge difference in their online safety.

4. Select "Privacy."
5. Turn the "Private account" switch to ON (it should turn green/blue).
