September is National Senior Center Month

There’s something special about having a place where you can grab lunch, join an activity, learn something new, catch up with friends, or simply spend time around people who enjoy being together.

A senior center is more than a place to go. It’s a place to connect, have fun, and be part of the community. Whether you’re a regular visitor or have never stopped in before, there’s always a reason to come through the door. This September, come see what your local senior center has to offer!

Storm Season Starts Before the Forecast

Thunderstorms can arrive unexpectedly, causing power outages and disrupting your routine. Prepare by checking flashlights and backup batteries, keeping important phone numbers handy, and stocking your emergency kit.

If you use medical equipment or refrigerated medications, review your backup plans and know how to keep them safe during an outage. Also, discuss evacuation routes, contact information, and communication strategies with family members. Preparation today can provide peace of mind tomorrow, helping you weather August’s challenges with confidence.

A Little Awareness Goes a Long Way

Whether you're shopping, walking through a parking lot, or attending a community event, staying aware of your surroundings can help prevent accidents.

Take your time, watch for uneven sidewalks and curbs, use handrails whenever they're available, and avoid carrying so many items that you can’t clearly see where you’re walking. If you're driving, park in well-lit areas whenever possible, keep your keys within easy reach, and take a quick photo of your parking spot to help you remember where you parked. Simple habits like these can help you stay safe and confident wherever your day takes you.
