With all of the rain we’ve had and will be receiving, a reminder to not cross over flooded roads. Even if they are roads within our parks. Do not tread through flood waters either! Sands Timber has a large water shed and has flooded over our road and floated our bridge to the bathroom. As we are coming into Memorial Day weekend the conservation team will do their best to work along side Mother Nature.

Central Decatur learned all about the native snakes and animals of Iowa. Built Wood Duck boxes, shot archery, and threw atlatls.

UPGRADE at Wilson Lake.
Wilson Lake has a new vault toilet and just in time for the 2026 camping season! A thank you to the Taylor County Endowment Foundation for awarding us with the $10,000 grant to put towards the Wilson Lake bathroom project.

Beemer Fisheries sponsored and supplied 150 Rainbow Trout at Wilson Lake pond. Be sure to get your Trout stamp and GO FISHING!

Beemer fisheries now delivers snakes! This beautiful Black Rat Snake took a ride in the fish truck this afternoon and was safely removed to pose for a picture!
Remember snakes are starting to come out and may venture in your path. Just walk around them and let them keep slithering on!

The Easter eggs are all gone from Sands Timber but there are still some at the French Preserve .
So please take the kids out for a hunt on the Bunny trail!

The rain doesn’t stop the Easter bunny! Sands Timber Lake and French Preserve is ready for you and your kids to hop down the bunny trail. Instructions will be clearly laid out at the trail head! The eggs will be out until they are all gone!

Jim Gamel approached the Taylor County Conservation with a once in a lifetime opportunity. Jim had wanted to preserve his family legacy and also give back to the community that he had been apart of all his life. Let me tell you he did just that!
