The America250PA Bedford County Committee thanks everyone who made our Juneteenth Conversations & Commemorations Weekend possible.

We were honored to welcome acclaimed author and Bedford County native David Bradley back to the area for two speaking engagements - Friday at the Omni Bedford Springs Resort & Spa and Saturday, along with historian/author Kevin Mearkle at the Bedford County Historical Society. Then Sunday we came together at the historic Imes Cemetery in Chaneysville for a Memorial Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony.

We felt it important to honor the resilience, courage, and enduring legacy of African Americans whose stories are woven into the fabric of Bedford County and our nation. Juneteenth reminds us of the triumph of freedom, the ongoing pursuit of equality, and the importance of preserving and sharing our collective history.

We are also grateful to all who joined us to reflect, remember, and recommit ourselves to fostering understanding, unity, and respect for all. We hope these gatherings serve as both a tribute to those who came before us and an inspiration for future generations as together we mark America’s 250th anniversary.

For those attending today's ceremony at Imes Cemetery in Chaneysville, please meet at the Southampton Township - Bedford County, Pa building - 312 Chaneysville Cove Rd, Everett, PA 15537 at 1:30pm to carpool/caravan to the cemetery site due to limited access and parking. Bringing a lawn chair is recommended.

Today's event included conversations about the Underground Railroad in Bedford County by Kevin Mearkle and an honest look at Juneteenth by David Bradley in front of a significant audience. Happy First Day of Summer!

Celebrate by coming out and watching the Saxton’s America 250 Parade. Wear red, white, and blue and celebrate being an American.

Parade starts at 6 and will travel along Main Street. I’m told there will be about 40 floats/apparatus in the parade. Hope to see you there!

PS. There will be candy.

The parade is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

We're excited to take the Bedford County Liberty Bell to Saxton this weekend for the Broad Top Chamber parade!

Saxton is having a PARADE!

America 250 Parade on Main Street from the Car Wash to Martin's. Come out and watch. Sat. June 20, 6 PM as we celebrate America and all the freedoms we enjoy.
