Please see this notice for an upcoming meeting on soil health.

Join us for an in depth session designed to help producers understand the numbers that drive both soil function and farm profitability. This event features Lance Gunderson, PhD (ReGen Ag Labs) known for his expertise in soil health testing, including the Haney Test, and how these metrics translate into real world management decisions. Weโ€™ll also hear from John Haskell (Ranch Right) focusing on the margins, economics, and financial strength of your operationโ€”what to measure, how to interpret it, and how to make decisions that improve long term resilience.

This free event is hosted by Green Sprig Ag, Virginia No-Till Alliance (VANTAGE), Virginia Tech, and American Farmland Trust with support from Sustainable Chesapeake and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Date: Thursday, July 16, 2026

๐Ÿ“ฃ Help shape the future of Central Virginia's economy

The Central Virginia Planning District Commission is updating the region's Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), a five-year plan designed to strengthen and diversify the economy across Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties, and the City of Lynchburg.

The updated strategy will help guide economic development priorities, strengthen regional collaboration, and improve the region's competitiveness for federal funding opportunities.

To help shape the plan, residents, business owners, farmers, and community stakeholders are encouraged to complete a public survey.

The survey is open through July 17. Take it here: https://bit.ly/4vyrvTX

Want to learn how native warm season grasses can help provide forage during our hot and/or dry summers? You are invited to attend a free field day at Tuck Farms on June 17th beginning at 9:30 a.m. You will see first-hand how Keith Tuck is utilizing these grasses to provide much need grass when our cool season grasses go dormant or semi-dormant in the summer. This is especially timely as we endure a significant drought this year. The field day is free and lunch is provided. Registration is required. To sign up, please call the Peaks of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District at 540-587-7645.
