Summer hours begin this weekend at the Bedford Public Library! In June, July, and August we'll be open 10:00 AM -2:00 PM on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. The weekday schedule remains the same: 9:00 AM - 8:30 PM Monday-Thursday and 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Fridays.

Are you ready for Summer Reading? Before the adult and teen programs begin, stop by the Bedford Public Library for an ice cream social! Enjoy a sweet treat, sign up for the challenge, and relax in the air-conditioned McAllaster Room with friends and neighbors.

This event is for Bedford Library cardholders ages 12 and up. (Kids have their own kick-off event on Monday, June 15!) Today at the Bedford Public Library: Granite State Women in the Vietnam War!

Approximately 11,000 women served in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War, and of those about 5,000 were on active duty in Vietnam itself. Barred from direct ground combat until 2013, military women at the time served in health care, communications, intelligence, administrative positions, and more. Many, like the protagonist of popular historical fiction novel "The Women," were nurses. They also served in civilian roles, such as the flight attendants who helped carry people, medical supplies, and ordinance into war zones.

Leah Dearborn, associate director of the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, will present on the myriad ways women from the Granite State contributed to and were impacted by the war in Vietnam.

The Bedford Public Library's current building opened its doors on June 23, 1996, which means the library is turning 30 this month! Just in time for its 250th anniversary, learn all about the Declaration of Independence at the Bedford Public Library on Tuesday, June 16 at 2:00 PM. Teacher David Alcox will present an unbiased look at the Declaration and share valuable content to illuminate the influences and ideals of the document.

The Bedford Public Library building turns 30 years old in June, so in its honor we're heading back to 1996! Break out your flannel shirt, dust off your Spice Girls CDs, and get ready to prove that your knowledge of the 1990s is all that and a bag of chips at our '90s Trivia Night.

We'll be using Kahoot for our trivia game, so please make sure to bring a smartphone or table that your team can connect with. Teams of up to 5 are welcome and the event is geared toward adults and teens.
