The Beecher Fire Protection District will be escorting runners and members of Beecher PD as they run the Flame of Hope torch in support of Special Olympics Illinois.

This torch will be relayed consistently through the state until its run culminates in the lighting of the cauldron at the 2026 Special Olympics Illinois State Summer Games in Normal, Illinois this weekend.

Traffic will be impacted as we leave from the CVS parking lot on the corner of Church Road and Dixie Highway at approximately noon today. The run will move south on Dixie Highway toward Penfield, and end at Fireman’s Park. Please use caution if driving in the area.

We’re proud to support these officers, the Law Enforcement Torch Run, and the incredible athletes of Special Olympics Illinois!

When a member of the community pulls up during morning checks and asks for help, ‘turkey vulture’ is not typically on our bingo card.

Thankful that Artie and his unexpected passenger are both ok!

We’re taking “no two shifts are the same” to new heights this morning. 🦅

🚑 GRANT AWARDED! 🚑
The Beecher Fire Protection District is proud to announce that we have been awarded $26,000 through the Illinois State Fire Marshal Small Equipment Grant Program to assist with the replacement of our ambulance Power Cots and Power-LOAD Systems.

This funding will help offset the significant cost of replacing critical patient transport equipment that has served our community for more than a decade. Historically, when a new ambulance was placed into service, the existing cot and loading system were transferred from the ambulance being retired to the new unit. As a result, our current systems are now over 10 years old, and the cost of maintaining and repairing them continues to increase.

The total cost to replace two Power Cots and two Power-Load Systems is approximately $190,000. This grant is an important investment in both patient care and firefighter/paramedic safety.

These advanced systems provide numerous benefits, including:

Zero-Lift Loading – Hydraulically lifts and guides the cot into and out of the ambulance, eliminating heavy lifting and reducing cumulative trauma injuries.

Improved Employee Safety – Studies have shown these systems can reduce the risk of low-back injuries by as much as 35% while significantly decreasing physical strain on emergency responders.

Enhanced Patient Safety – Continuous support of the cot during loading and unloading helps reduce the risk of patient drops and other adverse events.

Crash-Tested Protection – Meets dynamic crash-testing standards to enhance occupant safety in the event of a vehicle collision.

Reliable Operation – Features wireless charging capabilities and manual backup systems to ensure safe operation even during power loss or battery failure.

Investing in modern EMS equipment helps ensure our paramedics can continue providing the highest level of care while reducing the risk of injury to those who serve our community every day.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal for supporting local fire departments through the Small Equipment Grant Program and helping us continue our mission of protecting lives and property.
